All of her life, Cadence “Cade” Williams has been lied to…
With her ailing father on his deathbed, a whispered secret sends Cadence’s life into a tailspin. Determined to either confirm or debunk her father’s claim, she sets out on a mission to grow close to the only man with evidence to set things straight. To do that, Cadence earns a position in an elite security firm owned by her father’s old army buddy, Noah “Mac” Mackinley.
Mac is the only man who could hold the evidence to support her father’s claims…
But first, she must prove herself worthy of Mac’s trust and get close enough to find the truth. Her first mission is to watch over an eight-year old girl, Harley Clark.
Harley is not an ordinary girl. She’s the daughter of a rock star…
Despite her fragile appearance, Harley has tenacity and brilliance like nothing Cade has ever seen. To everyone’s surprise—including her own—Cade forms an unlikely friendship with the beautiful wallflower.
Her first assignment just became more interesting…
When Harley’s rock star father, Jax Clark, enters the scene, Cade can’t deny the instant attraction for the self-proclaimed bad boy. Tattoos, piercing eyes, and a raspy voice that sends thousands of fans into a screaming frenzy, he’s more than just a heartthrob. Worse, Jax starts to pay her more attention than she expects.
She’s faced with a choice—get lured in by the celebrity world and lose any chance of finding out the truth, or stick to the plan and avoid Jax at all costs to earn Mac’s trust.

MY RATING: 4/5 stars
Harley was a rather unexpected read for me. I read the synopsis and thought…hmm, this could be good. On the contrary, good was not the right word. Harley was great. I really, really loved it. I loved it because of Harley. That kid is up there with some of my favorite book children ever.
Cadence “Cade” Williams is a tough as nails member of a security firm who is assigned to protect, Harley, the eight year old daughter of Jackson Clark, the sexy, rock God. Harley is a sweet, well-mannered, very smart and engaging little girl who misses nothing. The dynamics with these three drew me in from the start. They are all so aware of each other.
The love story between Cade and Jax is kind of a rare gem. I rooted for them from the beginning. Jax might be a rock star, but he’s not stereotyped as a womanizing, party boy. He is a father and acts like, plus when he sees Cade, he does his best to impress her. This is an instant attraction story, which I know some people don’t like, but despite the instant attraction, there is a nice slow burn to the happily-ever-after.
The real star of the book is Harley, Jax’s eight-year old daughter. She is wise beyond her years due to some things that made her grow up quickly. She is funny and smart and injects just the right amount of comic relief. She also is a little schemer.
The book is clean. There are some steamy scenes that are cleverly written that give you the feels, but avoid the franker terms. There is no cheating, no violence and the language is pretty tame. There is a happily-ever-after with a sweet epilogue to wrap it all up, and a surprising little side romance between two characters that I was actually rooting for in the beginning, but didn’t see coming.
My only negatives (because no book is perfect) are the writing style and one of the side stories. The writing style is much more formal than I’m used to in a new adult romance. It’s not enough to deter from the overall goodness that is the book, it is just not something I’m used to, so this issue may be all my own. The side story was necessary to drive the plot, but, in my opinion, could have been resolved a little sooner.
All in all, I like Harley. It’s a clean, sweet romance with the perfect amount of steam and a great character in Harley who is one of my favorite book children ever. A definite add to the TBR.
