Smolder by Karen Erickson
Release Date: June 21st, 2016
Series: Wildwood #2
Lane Gallagher wants Delilah Moore – bad.
He’s imagined the sexy brunette in his bed more times than he can count.
She’s everything he’s ever wanted, but the only problem is…
She’s his brother’s ex.
For years, the stoic sheriff’s deputy has fantasized about the sweet, bubbly dance teacher who stirs his deepest desires. But Lane’s too loyal to ever move in on forbidden territory and he knows that while he can look, he definitely can’t touch. Fighting his attraction to Delilah is nearly impossible, but the infuriating-and incredibly sexy-woman seems determined to drive him crazy.
And she’s bringing him to his knees. One smoldering kiss at a time.

Smolder is most definitely an appropriate title for this second book in the Wildwood Series.
Lane Gallagher is a sexy, gruff, loner who has lusted after Delilah Moore since they were teenagers. Delilah has always had a thing for the sexy Lane, but he has always blown her off. Lane ignores his desire for Delilah because he doesn’t think he’s the man for her and she used to date his younger brother.
I love romances that involve long simmering feelings. They make for the best slow burn build-up to some hot romance. Despite her persistence, Lane has all but ignored Delilah over the years. Even with Delilah in danger, he denies his feelings. But, Delilah is persistent and finally he gives in. There is this really awesome scene involving dinner and post-dinner activities.
The interaction between Lane and Delilah is good, really good. They are already familiar with each other, so there is no wasting time getting to know each other. Their backstory is explained, however, but not overly done. The slow burning build up to that moment when Lane finally recognizes his feelings are what they are is agonizing in a good way. When it finally happened, I swear I let out a little cheer.
The only real criticism I have is that I wish Lane would have been a little less recluse-like. He has very little interaction with other characters outside of Delilah, which maybe wason purpose, but I felt he wasn’t developed as well as he could have been.
Overall, this is a great book with one heck of a romantic happy ending.
Oh and if you have read my review of book 1, the pesky arsonist is still interrupting sexy times. 🙂
