New Release! 4.5 Star Review of Downed by Jen Frederick

He’s the guy no one likes…

Despite winning two national championships, JR “Ace” Anderson was sent packing from his old school after losing the trust of his coach. At Southern U, he has a second chance to prove that his college legacy isn’t endless debauchery and selfishness. But his reputation precedes him, and his teammates offer a chilly welcome in the locker room. The one person who is willing to accept him is the very woman he should stay away from—his new coach’s daughter.

She’s the girl everyone loves…

Bryant Johnson’s only goal in life is to make others happy, even at her own expense. One look at her father’s new star quarterback, and she knows that Ace is her next project. With a reputation for being a “jerk whisperer”, Bryant has spent her last three years at college reforming sorry behavior and turning bad boys into the best boyfriends ever. In Ace, though, she’s met with surly resistance and a sizzling attraction she doesn’t expect. Fixing this wounded warrior will be her biggest challenge yet. Not falling for him will be even harder.

Between her big heart and his damaged one, a battle is ensuing. In this game of love, every defense will crumble.

My Review:

4/5 Stars!!!

You are going to LOVE Ace!!

Downed is book three in the Gridiron series by Jen Frederick. I read them out of order…I know, silly me. I actually read book two first, then went back and read book 1 after I discovered the magic that is this series. While these can all be read as standalones, they are pretty interconnected. That does not mean you have to start at the beginning, but eventually, you should read them all. OK. PSA over. 🙂

Downed features JR “Ace” Anderson, former quarterback of the Western State football team who was unceremoniously benched after he made a “little mistake.” He was eventually offered a scholarship to play his senior year at Southern, which is where this book takes place. If you have read the other books, the series has now moved to a different university. I wasn’t sure I was going to like that, but it was the right move. The boys at Western kinds of ran their course, but Downed opens the door for books for new characters (Ty needs a book, Jen. wink wink). Ace is brash, cocky and an unapologetic asshole. He has some issues he keeps ignoring them like any man would do. He meets Bryant, the coach’s sweet, southern belle of a daughter with the permagrin and the ever present positive attitude. She is the complete opposite of Ace. Suddenly, Ace is strong armed (sort of) into a relationship with Bryant. Okay, so that’s not really how it starts, but you will have to read how it really goes down. There is a little strong-arming, though, but not in the way you are thinking.

Ace and Bryant are awesome characters. Complete opposites that fit together like a puzzle. Their interactions are sweet and at times hysterical. Ace is a dirty talker, which Bryant does not approve of. Some of the things she said to him had me crying with laughter! You can’t help but love them both.

Downed is a little bit funny, a little bit sports and a whole lot of happy goodness and you will love it!
