Blog Tour: 4.5 Stars for Wild Card by Karina Halle!

SBPRBanner-WildCard-BT.jpg

Wild Card, an all-new contemporary STANDALONE by New York Times Bestselling author Karina Halle is available NOW!!!

Wild Card AMAZON

Wild Card is a standalone novel and the first book in the North Ridge Trilogy about rough and rugged Canadian mountain men, the Nelson brothers. Canada’s never felt so hot.

She swore she’d never go back home.

She swore she’d never see the man who broke her all those years ago.

But you don’t always get to choose your path.

And sometimes that path is as wild and rugged as the heart.

Rachel Waters thought she saw the last of the small mountain town of North Ridge, British Columbia, when she left six years ago. But while her advertising career blossomed beneath the skyscrapers of Toronto, her mother’s sudden illness has the 26-year old returning to North Ridge to care for her, putting her career on hold while dealing with family secrets, regrets and unresolved goodbyes.

Shane Nelson has always been a bit of a wild card. The youngest of three brothers, Shane’s spent most of his life being underestimated and misunderstood. With his quiet intensity, classic good looks and thoughtful demeanor, he’s an enigma on horseback, managing his father’s sprawling ranch on the slopes of North Ridge.

But while Shane remains the quintessential brooding cowboy, complete with an arsenal of inner demons, all of that changes when Rachel steps back into his life.

She was the girl he pushed away.

Now she’s the girl who wishes she could leave.

Despite the odds, Shane will do everything to convince Rachel he needs a second chance that he doesn’t deserve but when the two of them head off into the wilderness together in search of lost cattle, more than just their hearts are at stake.

Whether it’s love or lives on the line, one thing is for sure: always bet on the wild card.

My Review:

4.5 Stars!!

Wild Card is the first in a new series of interconnected standalones from favorite Karina Halle!

Wild Card is a second chance romance about Shane and Rachel, best friends who evolved into more as high schoolers, but broke up in stellar fashion when Shane demolished Rachel’s heart. Now, Rachel is back in North Ridge and these two get a second chance at finding old feelings and falling in love again.

There is so much more to this story than just a second chance romance. The backstory and character development are amazing. Both Shane and Rachel are more than they initially appear with their complicated pasts and feelings of guilt. I do have to admit that that initial spark that I expected during their initial reunion wasn’t what I thought it would be, but as I read further, I was more than satisfied with the way the story played out. And let’s not forget the cast of secondary characters, who play vital roles in Shane and Rachel’s stories without being too intrusive. Additionally, there is a nice set up for the future books in the trilogy.

You are going to love this new series and Wild Card is an amazing, emotional, romantic introduction to what is sure to be a new cast of favorite characters from Karina Halle!

Win the game. Lose your heart.

Everyone knows who I am and that I could have any female fan I want. That’s supposed to be the “perk” of playing left field for the Boston Renegades. But I don’t want just any woman; I want her.

She should be just another face in the crowd, but I can’t stop thinking about the one night we spent together-and her look of regret the morning after.

Because Saylor Blackwell is the kind of woman who haunts a man. Smart, sexy as hell, and one of the best managers in the business. She’s every ballplayer’s dream woman. And I’d do anything to make things right with her.

I’m done sitting on the bench when it comes to Saylor Blackwell. Time to swing for the fences.

MY REVIEW

4.5 star!

Heidi McLaughlin hits one out of the park with the newest in The Boys of Summer series! Filled with emotion, drama and even a little suspense, Grand Slam is a must read!

If you’ve been reading the series, you’ll know Travis Kidd is a player both on and off the field. He is unapologetic about his ways until one night changes everything. In that one night, something bad and something equally good happen.

Heidi McLaughlin does this book right! She doesn’t force the story, but instead let’s it play out naturally allowing you to fall in love with the characters and root for their happy ending!

Get your hands on this book! You’re going to love it!

GRAND SLAM EXCERPT

Whenever I wake up with a hangover, I often ask myself why I drank so much and promise that I’ll never do it again. That promise is something I’ve been breaking for the past few days, and up until now, I didn’t care.
I had hoped the booze would muddy my memory of last night, but it hasn’t. Every word she said, every expression she had, every punch to my chest to get me out of her apartment is crystal clear. I fucked up, and I don’t even know how. All I know is that the sobs I heard on the other side of Saylor’s door last night were enough to sober my stupid ass up.
For hours, I sat against her door, until a resident suggested I leave or they were going to call the police. If I hadn’t been arrested ear- lier, I probably would have encouraged them to dial Boston’s Finest. Another man might understand my plight. The woman that I want to be with kicked me out of her house, and while I probably deserved it, I didn’t want to leave until she stopped crying. I didn’t want to be the one to walk away in her time of need.
But as egos go—and believe me, mine is huge—I couldn’t let it get in the way any longer, so I walked my drunk ass back home with my tail between my legs, only to stay up all night while the booze wore off, knowing that I had to live with whatever I’d done to Saylor.
She’s the last person in the world who I want to hurt, and she’s the one person who can save me. Not only from a life behind bars, but from myself. When I’m with her, I’m a different person. The cocky son of a bitch whom everyone is used to doesn’t exist when she’s near me, and frankly, that is the man I like, or at least I used to. It’s easier being a fucking douche. It’s second nature to me and comes with the territory of being named one of the city’s most eligible bachelors.
Except when I’m with Saylor, I can be the man who hides in the shadow of that Travis Kidd. I can be the kind of man who doesn’t have to have a one-liner available or wink in order to get a phone number. When I’m with her, life outside of baseball starts to have a meaning, a fucking purpose.

The Contract by Melanie Moreland

Available Now!

Blurb:

A tyrant by day, a playboy by night. That is the reputation that precedes Richard VanRyan. He lives life the way he wants, no concern for the opinion of others. He cares for no one, is completely unrepentant, and he has no desire to change his ways.

Katharine Elliott works under Richard as his PA. She despises him and his questionable ethics, but endures all the garbage he sends her way, because she needs the job. Her end goal is far more important than the daily abuse and demands she tolerates from her nasty tyrant of a boss.

Until the day, he asks her for something she never expected. A new role with a personal contract — fiancée instead of PA.

What happens when two people who loathe each other, have to live together and act as though they are madly in love?

Sparks.

That’s what happens.

Can the power of love really change a person?

Will they survive the contract?

What do you do when the one person you hate the most becomes the one person you can’t live without?

My Review:

4 Stars!

The Contract is a really good book. You have Richard, an a-hole boss who really is the King of Douchetown and his seemingly mousy, meek assistant, Katherine. When Richard needs Katherine to get his dream job, things get a little dicey between the two enemies. Richard doesn’t like Katherine and the feeling is mutual. She puts up with him because she has no choice.

Richard is one of those heroes you love to hate. He is seriously awful to Katherine and pretty much everyone else. He is a loner, doesn’t believe in love and is content living his life the way it is. All this just makes Richard that much more lovable when he finally opens his eyes and sees her as a person. Katherine is a different story for me. At first, I wasn’t sure I liked her, but that quickly passed when you see the reason behind everything for her.

I actually really love the whole marriage of convenience trope. I love to watch a jerk or mean girl transform in the face of love. That’s what you get with The Contract. Moreland does a great job of not rushing things. She lets the story play out naturally and she doesn’t make things easy on Richard. It just made it all the more satisfying when the HEA was finally achieved.

Melanie Moreland was new to me, but this will certainly not be the last book of hers that I read.

AP new - synopsis.jpg

On the roof of a house outside Truelove, Maine, master carpenter Max Doyle looks down through a skylight and sees the most beautiful woman he’s ever laid eyes on. She’s naked, she’s gorgeous, and everything about her is perfect, down to the ball-busting tattoo of a rose that wraps around her hip. But it isn’t just any woman making his knees buckle. It’s his best friend, Rosie Madden. And as he stands there, mesmerized and precariously close to toppling off the roof, he knows he’ll never, ever be able to look at her the same way again.

Rosie can’t help but notice that Max is suddenly acting very strange—lots of long stares, totally tongue-tied, and not at all like the slightly cocky hunk she’s proud to call her best friend. She can’t figure it out, until later that night when Max rescues her from the world’s worst date, challenges her to a game of pool, and shows her just exactly what she’s got him thinking about. Repeatedly.

But life is complicated. Rosie’s cat, Julia Caesar, wants to eat Max’s dog Cupcake for an afternoon snack. A dream job threatens to pull them apart. And another glance through the skylight changes everything, one more time. Yet try as they might, they can’t go back to being just friends, because falling in love with the one you’ve always adored?

Max

As I unlocked the door to my houseboat, I heard it. At first, it sounded like a duck paddling, but then I heard something else—a panting, or a gasping. For a second, it died down. It didn’t worry me, really, because the docks were full of weird noises, and boats were noisy as fuck. But I turned the deadbolt turned, the sound got louder and more frantic. Whatever it was, it didn’t sound good and it sure as hell didn’t sound like a duck. I let my work belt slide off my shoulder onto the deck, and looked down in the water, gripping the taffrail. There in the shadows, gasping, paddling, and panicking, I saw something small and wet and terrified.
Holy fuck. It was a dog. A tiny, drowning dog.
Fully clothed, boots on, I jumped into the water off the sternside. I plunged in deep, submerged in a world of shadowy barnacle-crusted dock pilings and chains holding anchors far below. Holding my breath and looking up toward the sunshine, through the bubbles that came down with me, I saw it. No bigger than a chicken, and kicking hard. I breaststroked toward the dog, aiming to come up right below it, but the salt water stung my eyes, and I closed them out of reflex. When I surfaced, it had gotten a few feet away. It was just a tiny thing, soaking wet, sucking in terrified breaths. It doggy-paddled in circles, slipping down into the water so that only its nose was above the surface. I did one strong breaststroke, but it was in full flight-or-fight mode, absolutely fucking petrified, and it paddled away from me, slipping out of my grasp. With one more big stroke, I had it, and I scooped it up into my arms to held her up out of the water, the way people do when the hold babies in the air. I saw it was a girl, her tummy soft and much less furry than the rest of her. Her big black eyes bugged out for an instant, and then…
She went limp in my hands. Lifeless, with her feet dangling down, her tongue hanging out. Her eyes were closed. On my palm, I couldn’t feel a heartbeat where I was sure there should have been one thrumming along.
Fuck. Fuck.
I gave her a shake, but she dangled like a rag doll.
I held her out of the water, keeping her in a tight bicep curl over my shoulder. Carefully, I maneuvered under the jetty that led to my boat. I got a toehold on the old dock ladder, rusty and unsteady. Using one hand to climb up, and using both boots like climbing picks, I emerged from my boat’s shadow and out into the sunshine of the dock. I laid her down on her back, supporting her lifeless body. With every passing millisecond, my heart fucking broke more and more. I could not let this happen. I could not let her die. I pulled myself up all the way and knelt beside her. She was flat on her back, with no signs of life at all. Her arms were limp at the wrists, and her paws dripped onto the dry wood beneath her. Still, her tongue hung out. Still, her eyes were shut. Still, she wasn’t breathing.
Somewhere, buried deep in my memory, I remembered learning the basics of canine CPR. I felt like maybe it was in my lifeguard class when I was in high school, but I didn’t fucking know and it didn’t fucking matter. All I knew was I had to do something, and fast. So I did. I wrapped my fingers around her tiny muzzle and brought my lips to her leathery nose. I blew gently, and as I did I felt her chest swell up. I held my own breath and prayed for anything, any sign of life, but there was nothing. Lightly, with the tips of my fingers, I did compressions on her soaking wet fur. One. Two. Three. And then I did another breath. One. Two. Three.
“Come on, little lady,” I whispered, and rolled her onto her side. I gave her a few pats, firm but not too hard. She was absolutely tiny—from scruff to tail, hardly bigger than the span of my hand. I rolled her over onto her back again and gave her one more breath, all the while going through the paces of what the fuck to do if this didn’t work. I had no goddamned idea whatsoever where the vet was. Did we even have a vet? Would she survive that long? What the fuck was I going to do?
But as I started the next set of compressions, she coughed. She actually coughed, like a tiny person, a gasping choking hack, accompanied by a few mouthfuls of water spilling out onto the wood planks.
Holy shit.
I froze with my hands just above her tiny body. Her strange, buggy eyes opened up and she started panting hard.
“Hey, hey!” I scooped her up in my arms, cradling her to my chest. I could tell by the way she was so limp against me that she was exhausted. Keeping her close to my body, to keep her warm and safe, I scratched the fur at the back of her neck, her tail started to wag. But she was also shivering hard, and I didn’t like that one bit.

 Excerpt

She almost shrinks into herself, and I instantly see red at the thought that others made her feel small or wish she’d be invisible. My first instinct is to ask who made her feel that way and make them pay, but I don’t see how that would make this any better. So I follow my second instinct—reassuring her I won’t ever make her feel small.
I close the distance to her, placing my hands on her shoulders, pressing one thumb at the base of her neck. Her pulse is erratic.
“I want you here, Clara. I wouldn’t have offered this place otherwise.”
“Okay.”
I value my privacy, which is why I didn’t rent out this apartment, not even to friends.
For the longest time, I had zero hesitation about letting people in my life. I’m a very sociable person; I like being surrounded by a crowd. The more, the merrier. Making friends has always come easy for me. It took me a long while to realize some people just hung around because I provided them with luxuries—free vacations, free everything. I was young when my family came into money, which had positives and negatives. I had everything I needed and wanted, but I also didn’t learn the value of caution or mistrust. It took many mishaps for me to realize some people only stuck around for what I gave them, and when that wasn’t enough, they showed their ugly side.
So now I’m more cautious, but Clara is one of the few people I feel comfortable around. I can be myself with her, just like with my family. She’s fun, smart, and no one who openly admits what she wants most is a family can have a mean or traitorous bone in their body.
There’s that small detail of me being unable to stop touching her, especially since she’s so responsive. The pad of my thumb is still at the base of her neck. Her pulse is, if possible, even more frantic.
“Any general house rules?” she asks, her voice uneven.
“None that I can think of. Except… I usually go to sleep very late and then wake up late in the mornings.”
“Makes sense, since the bar and the restaurants open and close late.”
“Yeah. I’m a light sleeper in the morning, so if you sing in the shower—”
“I don’t.”
An image of Clara in the shower pops in my mind. Christ, what I wouldn’t give to see that, to join her. Not going there. Not going there.
Lowering my hand, I skim it down her arm. Her skin turns to goose bumps under my touch, and she sucks in a breath. Her reaction to me is intoxicating, makes it hard to keep my thoughts in line, even harder not to touch her more, see what other reactions I can provoke.
Jesus, this is escalating far too easily. We’ve spent time with each other before, so why is this spinning out of control so fast?

“It’s just a job, how hard can it be?”

I was hired by his father to become his live-in caregiver.

It sounded like an easy job. But the day I arrived at his broken-down Scottish castle I started to realize it might not be as easy as I thought.

I was not told that I’d be looking after a dark, brooding, rich man mired in a world of pain.

I was not told that this man would push all my buttons and test even my strongest limits.

I was not told that he was devastatingly gorgeous with a wickedly, sinful mouth.

I was definitely not told that what I’d end up feeling and what he would propose would drive me wild. But I’m Annie and this is my new job. And damn it, I’m not going to let anything, even him, that gorgeous, sinful, delicious man, stand in my way.

You believe me? Don’t you?

My Review:

4 Stars!

The 4th book in the All In series is an sexy, sweet, emotional journey.

Ian lives a dark and lonely existence in a castle in Scotland. His self-imposed isolation has left him angry and bitter and broken. When his father hires sweet, innocent Annie to be his caretaker, his world is turned upside down.

This is not the story you will expect it to be. It is much more. Ian is dark and complicated with hints of humanity and heart. Despite his gruff exterior, he has something underneath yet to be discovered. Annie is overcommitted to helping her family. She has put her dreams aside to help out her mother and siblings. In need of money, she takes the caretaker job. Initially, Ian intimidates her, but she hangs tough and gets under his skin.

This is a slow burn book with a fair amount of angst. Right smack in the middle of the book, Callie Harper throws in a twist that I didn’t see coming, but added a layer to the book that worked perfectly. After the twist, things almost start anew. Characters change. The story twists. Ian gets his much deserved HEA!

Another great book from Callie Harper!

My Review:

4 Stars!

Ok, please don’t hurt me, but I have to be honest. It took me some time to really get into this book. I didn’t really like Dallas or Paige. I got to a point and convinced myself to read just one more chapter. If it didn’t get better, then I would DNF the book (which I very, very rarely do). Well, low and behold, it got better… and then I couldn’t stop reading!

Dallas is a pro-football player–sexy, cocky and has a fan club called Dallas Dolls. I know, right?! Paige is a “quirky” (her word, not mine. Read goofball) librarian with a whole host of issues when it comes to romoance. These two are complete opposites. Dallas is attracted to Paige from the get go. Paige blows him off because her sister is his PR rep and has warned her off him. Does he pursue her anyway? Sort of. Not really. Not until the QB makes this weird bet where Dallas has to date a good girl and if he does then the QB will mentor/coach the back up QB. That part didn’t flow well with me, because in my brain it didn’t really make sense and the bet wasn’t really even an issue.

However, once Paige and Dallas really get into their relationship, it turns out Dallas is good guy and Paige is freak in the bedroom. It was so backwards I couldn’t help but love it. If fact, the whole story is backwards. The conflict is completely backwards from the usual romance novel conflict. That, right there, was what sold me. I loved that Valentine told this story outside the usual confines of a romance novel. I liked that the characters only appeared a certain way, because once we really get to know them, they are so much more.

So, if you find yourself in my situation and unsure of how you feel about the book, just keep reading. It moves along a great pace, the characters will grow on you and the ending… swoon!

Excerpt:

The one good piece of advice my mom gave me concerning men is that their egos are huge yet fragile and it takes the delicate, yet strong touch of a woman to handle them.
Leave it to a man I know only by reputation to drive that point home.
Dallas sits in my office, an ice pack on his lip and the back of his head. To be nice, and since it was my fault he’s in pain in the first place, I’m holding the one on his head, so he can have at least one hand free.
“Sorry,” I say for what has to be the tenth time in the past twenty minutes. “I didn’t get to explain myself before, but I wasn’t laughing at you…well, it was at you, but not your pain. Pain is not funny. When I fell out of a tree and broke my wrist at the growth plate, I laughed the whole way there because that’s the only way I could deal with the pain. Finley didn’t order to me stop either.”
Dallas glances at me, his normally warm eyes icy. “Not sure how that helps.”
“Hopefully, it lets you know that I’m not laughing all willy-nilly.”
“Willy-nilly,” he mutters. “Who says willy-nilly?”
“I do, and to be honest, you’re not that soft. It actually hurt to fall on you.”
He arches a brow. “You weren’t exactly a pile of feathers.”
“Yeah… that’s not helping either.” I take the ice pack away and gently inspect the back of his head. “There’s a tiny,” he hisses, “bump here, but um, I’m sure if you go to the doctor that you’ll get fixed up in time for your next game.”
“You do realize that if I have a concussion, I can’t play this week.”
Slowly, I shake my head. “I didn’t know that.” Now I feel even worse for freaking out when I fell off the ladder. The dang thing is only three feet off the ground. I wasn’t falling to my death or into a pit of snakes.
I shiver.
Pushing away the thoughts of snakes and pits, I focus on Dallas. Although, I plan on making it up to him, I do need to say something about his sneaky ways.
“This could have been avoided altogether if you hadn’t sneaked up on me.”
His jaw works. “I spoke to let you know I was there, so I wasn’t sneaking up on you.”
This time, I’m the one arching a brow. “Next time, do you mind waiting until you’re standing on the ladder with me, or I don’t know… wait until I’m done with said ladder before scaring me to death?”
Dallas tosses the ice pack on my desk. “I guess you have a point.”
He’s agreeing with me? From my Google snooping, or Snoogling as I like to call it, everything about Dallas screams he is a cocky, confident man who has been known to argue with a referee a time or two. Then again, according to the article I read, Dallas argued with the ref over not throwing a flag for unnecessary roughness due to player being tackled after the whistle was blown. That kind of behavior, the other player’s, I mean, is considered very poor sportsmanship and worth some sort of penalization.
So maybe he was right to argue… and maybe I’m wrong to assume the worst about him. Even Finley says he’s not that bad, which for her is practically an endorsement.
But not for us to date—I’m not that stupid.
Or am I…?
“Is there any way I can make it up to you?” I ask. Yes, that is a hopeful tone in my voice. I do want to go out with him, try something new, and see what happens. Besides, it’s not like he’s going to ask me out again. That ship has sailed based on his grumpiness.
“Have drinks with me tonight at 451,” he says.
The ice pack I’m holding plops onto his head, and he grunts. “Sorry. Dang it.” I grab the pack and toss it onto my desk, where it slides precariously close to the edge. “Yes, I’d love to have drinks with you. My treat, of course, since I’m the cause of your injury and… you can send me any outstanding bills.”
“Why would I do that? You didn’t make me try to save you, and I sure as hell could have finessed my approach better.”
“Drinks only, then?”
“Appetizers, too. My treat.” His infamous grin curves his lips. “Don’t want you to think I’m trying to take advantage of you due to an empty stomach.”
So smooth. I eye him. “You might want to get your head looked at first because I’m pretty sure that alcohol and concussions don’t play nice together.”
He salutes me. “Will do.”
I fist my hands on my hips. “Did you come by here to see me, or to see the event space?”
He bites the unbruised side of his lip. “Would it bother you if I said both?”
My stomach flips at his answer. “No. I like honesty.”
“Then you’re going to love this,” he says with a serious look in his eyes that is in direct opposition of his tone, “because I need you to help me win a bet so a fellow teammate can get some mentoring.”
Intrigued, I reach across my desk and drag my office chair around. The floor is smooth and the feet have wheels, so it’s relative easy to do. Plus, I’m pretty sure Dallas is checking out my butt right now and I kind of like it.
Plopping down, I cross my legs and lean forward. “Tell me more.”
“You might not like it,” he warns.
“Do we have to kill anyone?”
His brows shoot up to his hairline. “No, but it’s kind of scary and insulting that you’d go there first.”
“Had to be asked.” I shrug.

BOOK BLURB:

My savior isn’t prince charming.

I’m not that lucky.

He’s my worst nightmare.

He’s my one night stand from two years ago.

And he doesn’t remember me.

What happens on vacation doesn’t always stay on vacation. Especially in a place like Aspen. I moved to the mountains for my dream vet job. I never expected to run into the man of my dreams. Again.

I never thought I’d see her again.

My Cinderella didn’t leave me a shoe to find her.

Not that I’d need random footwear to recognize her.

Her kiss is something I’ll never forget.

Work hard. Play hard. I’m paid to be a nice guy on the slopes, but what I do in my off time isn’t always about making good choices. That’s the fun of living in a ski town. I stay while the women come and go.

Crazy Over You is a standalone romantic comedy and the second book in the Love with Altitude series.

My Review:

4.5 Stars!

Daisy Prescott has never let me down.  I haven’t read a book of hers I haven’t enjoyed.  Crazy Over You is another great read for one of my favorite authors!

Set in the snow covered mountains of Aspen, Colorado, Crazy Over You is a tale of second chances, finding yourself and finding love with your kissing soulmate.  Mara and Jesse are a great couple.  There is no insta-love here.  Quite the contrary.  Mara and Jesse met once upon a time and when they run into each other again, neither quite recognizes the other and when they do, they both keep quiet.  This leads to confusion and maybe a few hurt feelings.  But, once they get over that and let it go, we get a fun and sexy romance.  Of course, no romance is smooth sailing to the end.  Of course not, that wouldn’t make for a great romance.  So, of course there are obstacles and feelings that get in the way, but it is a fun read along the way.

You will crazy over this new book from Daisy Prescott, just like I am!

My Review:

4.5 Stars!

In a genre filled with so much of the same, The Heartbeat Hypothesis comes along and gives you something different, something refreshing and something that will stick with you long after you’re done.

Audra received Jake’s sister’s heart in a heart transplant and she desperately wants to honor Jake’s sister, Emily, in some way. I mean, really, how sweet is that? It’s definitely sweet and highly emotional. I loved the honest responses from Jake and the timid yet determined way that Audra had about her. She spent so much of her life sick and now has this new lease on life, but she has walked herself into an emotional minefield with Jake. She is a constant reminder of his sister and Audra knows that Jake is hiding something. This whole book was amazing. I was two chapters in and just knew I was going to need to find a box of tissues. I was so right. I cried at the sad parts and I cried harder at the HEA. Oh that HEA was so beautiful.

If you are looking for something a bit different from the typical romances out there, then you are going to want to read this book. Heck, even if you don’t want something different, you want to read this. This talented author has written something truly magical!

ABOUT LINDSEY FRYDMAN

Lindsey has been writing since she was nine years old, when she discovered the awesomeness that is Harriet the Spy. Her books always include a romance, though sometimes there’s an added sci-fi or magical realism twist. She lives in Columbus, Ohio (where the weather is never quite right). Her BFA in Photography and Graphic Design has granted her a wide assortment of creative knowledge that serves as inspiration (and not much else). When she’s not crafting YA and NA stories, you’ll likely find her spending waaay too much time on Pinterest, playing a video game, singing show-tunes, or performing in a burlesque show—because she enjoys giving her introversion a worthy adversary. (Plus, it’s the closest to Broadway she’ll ever get.) Lindsey was a proud 2016 Pitch Wars Mentee and thoroughly adores being a part of the wonderful writing community. THE HEARTBEAT HYPOTHESIS is her debut novel.

Blog Tour: 4 Stars for Parker by Jillian Quinn!

Parker
Jillian Quinn
(Face-Off Series #1)
Publication date: February 15th 2017
Genres: Adult, Contemporary, Romance

Former collegiate athlete and successful sports agent, Charlotte “Coach” Coachman, is a straight shooter who has a very strict policy—no dating clients. The loves of her life are coaching little league basketball and managing the careers of her players, leaving no room for men.

Coach hasn’t met an athlete she couldn’t handle and a deal she couldn’t close—until she meets Alex Parker—the NHL’s most notorious bad boy both on and off the ice.

Alex is the best defenseman in the league, breaking records along with hearts. He’s made a name for himself as a womanizer, and after a scandal involving the owner’s granddaughter, Alex is traded to Philadelphia. Still reeling from the loss of his father, Alex is on a downward spiral, drowning himself in booze and women, until Coach takes him under her wing.

She might be attracted to the sexy hockey star, and certainly not immune to his charms, but Coach can see that Alex needs her help, and coaching players is what she does best. Now that the lines are blurred and the passion between them is too strong to deny, Coach has to decide if Alex is worth making an exception to her rules.

Goodreads / Amazon

My Review:

4 Stars!

Parker is a run, sexy read about a bad boy hockey player and the no nonsense sports agent who is tasked with keeping him in line.

I love a good hockey romance.  I’m not even a hockey fan (the horror, I know), but because of books like this, I have it in my head that all hockey players are hot bad boys.  Hee hee!  Alex Parker is a pretty great hockey bad boy.  He is all bad attitude and filthy mouth, but underneath his is just a broken man who is hurting.  Charlotte “Coach” Coachman is a sassy, take no crap kind of girl and I love that.  She was a former basketball star in college whose professional career was done before it started due to an injury.  Now, she works as an agent with one of the top sports management companies.  Charlotte has her reasons for being regimented and focused.  She doesn’t make personal connections and she doesn’t take crap from anyone.

I loved Alex.  I loved watching him come back from self-destruction with Charlotte’s help and I loved seeing Charlotte open up little by little and feel.  These two compliment each other which makes their chemistry crackle off the pages.

A great sports romance with a lot of feels, Parker is not to be missed.

Author Bio:

Jillian loves Mafia men, sports, bad boys, dirty talkers, strong female characters, and books with plenty of heat, all of which you will find in her books. As a lover of all things bookish, she has a serious book hoarding problem and runs a book blog in her free time. When she’s not reading, writing, or blogging, she’s obsessively fangirling over hockey players and can be found wherever she can catch the next hockey game.
