Blog Tour: 4 Stars for Yours and Mine by Christine Duval!

Yours And Mine
Christine Duval
(Freshman Forty #2)
Publication date: February 10th 2017
Genres: Contemporary, New Adult

The highly anticipated sequel to Positively Mine….

Picking up from the dramatic ending of Positively Mine, Yours and Mine continues the Freshman Forty series as we meet Danny Santoro, Laurel’s baby’s father, for the first time.

It’s been almost a year since he last saw her, that sultry morning she walked off the beach before dawn had even cracked the August sky. It seemed from her silence, she was out of his life forever.

But Laurel’s timing couldn’t be worse to tell him he’s a father. The last year hasn’t been easy. Danny’s own father was arrested for a DUI, his mother moved out, and Danny started sleeping with his brother’s old high school, drug-abusing girlfriend.

After Laurel shocks him with the news, she attempts to relinquish Danny of any parental responsibility leading to a heated custody battle. In an unorthodox arrangement, an eccentric judge orders Danny and Laurel to spend alternating weekends with each other for the upcoming school year.

Told from Danny’s point of view, Yours and Mine explores the second chapter of a romance that never got off the ground, the challenges of young parenting, and the hope of rekindled love.

My Review:

4 Stars!

Yours and Mine is the second book in the Freshman Forty series and I would highly recommend reading book one before you read this one.  However, there is basically much of book one but told from Danny’s perspective.

This emotional read is the story of two people who met one summer and reconnected each of the next three summers.  The last summer they were together, Danny leaves Laurel a life-long present.  She is pregnant and she hasn’t told anyone.  Danny’s life is a mess and he is self-destructing.  When he learns of the baby, he slowly starts to change.  Together, they learn to cope and love and mature.

This was a sweet story with some tough topics.  The writing was great and the characters will break your heart, but I highly recommend this book!

Story of Us, The - d. Nichole King.jpgTHE STORY OF US by d. Nichole King
Release Date: Feb. 9, 2017
Genre: NA Contemporary Romance
— SYNOPSIS —

Moments.

Every life is made of thousands of them, each one strung together with the next. Some are yellow and happy, some are blue and sad, and some…

Some wipe out color altogether.

“I love you,” is what I should have told Maverick.

“I’m sorry.”

“I’m still fighting.”

Instead I just watched him leave.

Now my husband, my everything is battling for each breath, and all I can do is stare at the machines as the clock ticks off precious minutes.

The doctors said the first twenty-four hours are critical—but every moment is critical.

You never know which will be your last.

This is our story, and I’m not ready for it to end.

My Review:

4 Stars!

The Story of Us is an emotional journey of self-discovery told in alternating time frames.  It moves from past to present with ease, weaving a tale that is at once easy and complicated.  It is highly emotional, so keep the tissues handy!  This book is real, raw and it will flay you open before sewing you shut.  I felt connected to Alieya because King did such a fine job of writing her with such reality.

This book will wreck you and then give you hope and King does it in the best way possible.

— EXCERPT

I’m cold sitting in one of the waiting rooms in the ICU. Maverick is still in surgery, the nurse tells me. They’ll come get me once he’s in his room. It shouldn’t be too much longer. No one else is close by. It’s just me and my thoughts.

It’s strange the things you think of to distract yourself from the real reason you’re sitting here. Me, I focus on the oil painting on the wall. Wonder how many people have stared at it and wanted to tear it down. How many liked it. Has anyone noticed that it leans a little to the left or that there’s an inconsistency in the corners of the wooden frame? Did anyone deliberate why this painting?

I’m sure it’s meant to calm the people who look at it. Doesn’t everyone find a lake dotted with sailboats calming? But the colors are all wrong. They don’t soothe me. They’re bright and bold and demanding. There’s too much crimson, too dark of navy.

I have to turn away from it. There’re magazines on the tables, but they scream at me too. Loud headlines of celebrities with large divorce settlements, jail time, and plastic surgery. The science ones boast of the newest medical advances and archeological finds. What they don’t realize is that in here, life beyond these walls no longer exists. In here, there’re only three things that matter: life, death, and the battle between them.

I shiver again. I should have brought warmer clothes.

Hugging my knees to my chest, I focus on the fake plant in the corner. There are no windows in this area, which is how I know it’s fake. It might be a fern of some sort, I don’t know. The leaves are long and skinny, but again, the color is wrong for this place.

I shift my attention to the hallway. In here, the lights are dim, but out there they’re on full and reflecting off of the cream floor. There’s a nurse at the nurses’ station, sitting behind a computer. She’s different from the one before. A moment later, another walks up to the desk. They keep hushed voices, and I hear nothing. The one at the computer lifts her eyes to me and when she meets my gaze, she offers a sympathetic smile. I don’t smile back.

I lower my head until my cheek rests on my arms, and I close my eyes. My skin is ice against my face. Cold is what it means to be alone, and right now, I’ve never felt more alone. Alone, but not lonely. No, because being lonely is different than being alone. Lonely is a fleeting state that ends. When Finley gets here, I’ll no longer be lonely, yet without Mav, I’ll still be alone.

I think about the happy moments Mav and I shared. Our time in Cancun. The dance under the stars. His smile. His silly pet name for me.

That was us. The whole, take-on-the-world, in-love us.

The us before we broke.

LONG WAY HME - RDL teaser 2

CHEVY

The instructions of the English homework I didn’t do hangs out from the top of my folder: Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, And sorry I could not travel both.

Story of my life.

According to my football coach, I chose wrongly on the two crap paths I had to face last week. I just ran into Coach on the way to English, and he ripped into me for my sorry decision-making skills when it came to me choosing to stand up for the Reign of Terror Motorcycle Club instead of a member of my football team.

I didn’t just get my ass chewed out, his tirade made me late for English with no tardy note. Which is great since my English teacher hates late students like I hate riding my motorcycle in forty degree weather while it rains.

I round the corner, then peek through the small window on the door of my class. Ms. Whitlock stands in front of her desk in her patented white button-down shirt, gray pencil skirt, and dark-rimmed glasses. From the back row, my best friend Razor meets my eyes and shakes his head. Damn. That means she’s in one of her moods where she’s refusing to let anyone in.

I’m not a tail-tucked-between-my-legs type of guy, but this lady is one of the few who can reduce me to begging. If she doesn’t let me in, then she’ll mark me as absent, the front office will think I skipped, and that means I won’t be able to play at tonight’s football game.

The window rattles when I knock. The entire class turns their heads in my direction, but Ms. Whitlock doesn’t. The muscles in my neck tighten. She is one of the hardest core people I know and my grandfather is the president of a motorcycle club. That says something.

She starts for the white board and I knock on the door again. This time, Ms. Whitlock does look my way and she grants me the type of glare reserved for people who kick puppies. I got it. I’m late. I’m the scum of humanity, so let my ass in so I can play football.

There’s this guy in my club, Pigpen. He’s about the same age as Ms. Whitlock, late twenties, and he’s a walking hard-on for this woman even though she would never give him the time of day. He practically runs into walls when she’s around because he’s too focused on checking her out. I don’t see gorgeous—all I see is seriously pissed off and the person standing between me and playing.

Ms. Whitlock points at the clock over her desk. She’s telling me I can wait. If I’m lucky, she’ll open the door after the quiz that I’ll receive a zero on. If I’m not so lucky, she won’t open the door at all.

Two pathetic paths and I could only travel one. Nowhere in that stupid poem did it mention there was good and bad to both paths and that sometimes it’s best not to choose, but to set up camp at the fork and do nothing at all.

I slam my hand into the nearest locker, almost relishing the sting.

“Feel better?”

A glance across the hallway and I freeze. Doesn’t matter how many times I see her in a day, she still manages to take my breath away.

Blog Tour: 4 Star review + Q&A with Lauren Rosolino to celebrate her new released – Running to Stand Still

runningstandstillbanner

cover-copy

Title: Running to Stand Still
Author: Lauran Rosolino
Genre: NA Romance

Collin was who he was: simple and easy.
Me? I was jagged and complex. I wanted everything.
And despite how he made me feel—safe—it was clear to me that we’d never work out in the end.
That divide between us would always be there.
Because I’d never ask him to give up on the things he wanted.
And, while I sometimes wished I could be that person, I wasn’t.

Just seven more months. Then Jamie Benson can leave this goodbye town behind her and start her new life in Chicago. She can leave this place of broken glass and cracked sidewalks and rusted fences. This place that holds nothing good. She can leave the ghosts and spinning rooms and shattered promises in her rearview mirror and never look back.
But all the stories she’s been telling herself are threatened when, one night, while tending bar at her father’s hole-in-the-wall dive, she meets Collin—a boy who is good and honest and sincere in a world where everything is harsh and cold and detached. A boy who makes her feel safe. A boy worth staying for.
Will Jamie be able to untangle the truths from the lies? Or will the sins of the past swallow her whole?

My Review:

4/5 Stars!

This is a beautiful coming of age story of second chances and finding love when and where you least expect it.

All Jamie wants it to get out of her small town and move to Chicago.  Life has not been good to her and she sees Chicago as her escape, her chance for a life on her terms.  Then she meets Collin.  Sweet, honest, kind and loving Collin and suddenly, she’s not so sure what she wants anymore.

Rosalino has written an honest story of relationships, letting go and self-discovery, and love at its purest.

Q & A with Lauren Rosalino

I read in your bio on your website www.laurenrosolino.com that you have been a life-long reader.  What was the first book you fell in love with?

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. To commemorate the new release (Harry Potter and the Cursed Child), I’m rereading the whole series now for the first time in I can’t remember how long. In the inside cover of my copy I wrote…
To: Lauren
From: Daddy
Year: 2000
Age: 8
For: doing good on report card
That’s where my love of reading and writing all began. The books are going by much faster now than I remember them when I was eight. They’re still so amazing though. So many feels.

Any books you have read lately that you would recommend?

Consulting my Goodreads list now…
The Joe Ledger series by Jonathan Maberry. My dad (yet again) got me hooked on the series when he bought me the first book, Patient Zero, last year for my birthday. The series is Sci-Fi Thriller and even if that’s not your preferred genre, I’d encourage you to give the series a chance. The writing just blows me away. It’s brilliant.

As a fellow Swiftie, I have to ask do you prefer Taylor Swift, Taylor Swift, or 1989, Taylor Swift?

Oh, good question! I’m going to have to say 1989. I didn’t become a hardcore fan until Speak Now. As an artist, I really appreciate Taylor’s dedication to the growth of her music. She changes and evolves with each album and I love that. I love that she doesn’t stay stuck in the past just because it’s been proven successful. She stays true to her music, to what she wants to say. And she’s just a phenomenal performer. At her concerts (I’ve been to two in Detroit), you feel like you’re there with her, connecting with her, even in a stadium full of people.

Do you have a writing ritual, like a specific playlist or type of food you must always have on hand?

Coffee. Always coffee (that I drink out of my Gilmore Girls Luke’s cup) I do create playlists for whatever I’m working on at the moment. If I have a hard time getting into a scene, I like to play the music that helped inspire the scene to get me started. If I’m not stuck, I either can’t listen to music at all or like to listen to what I call coffee shop indie rock: Death Cab for Cutie, Olin & the Moon, Wake Owl (just discovered them), or The Vampire Diaries music playlists on Youtube.

My son was reading your website bio over my shoulder and saw you were from Detroit.  He would like to know Michigan or Michigan State?

Tricky question. I attended Michigan State for my freshmen year, but my family all supports U of M. Ann Arbor is a cool town and in another life I would’ve really liked to attend U of M, but from my own personal experience I’m going to have to say Michigan State. Go Green! (says the most unenthusiastic, apathetic sports fan there ever was)

Running to Stand Still sounds like a tear-jerker.  Was there something in particular that inspired you to write this book?

Oh, yes. I think this will be my most emotional, autobiographical book I will ever write (many, many more posts on that on my blog). I drew so much from my personal experience of growing up in the suburbs of Detroit–the sights, the smells, the sounds, the texture of life there. And also, the experience that I think a lot of people can relate to of being somewhere you don’t want to be, wondering to yourself, how did I get here? When did this become my life?

On your website, you list some of your all-time favorite books and many of them are fantasy.  Would you want to write a fantasy novel someday?

YES! Sorry, I cannot contain my excitement. I have plans (very serious plans) to write a paranormal series centering around witches. I’m very excited about that, though I’m not exactly sure when that is going to happen. And as for writing epic fantasy of Melanie Rawn proportions, I think I’ll be ready to tackle that when I’m about 70 years old. 🙂 But yes, creating my own fantasy realm is definitely on my writer’s bucket list.

One last question.  Travis Maddox spent a very long time at the top of my book boyfriend list, until I read Dirty by Kylie Scott.  Suddenly, Vaughan Hewson was shoving poor Travis out of the way.  Who is at the top of your book boyfriend list?

Am I allowed to say my own characters? Ha! Because I’m seriously in love with both Logan (from The Charm Necklace) and Collin (from Running to Stand Still).

My favorite Maddox brother was Trenton. But I’d say my favorite book boyfriend, is Julian from Lady Midnight, the new Cassandra Clare series. He’s just so gentle and caring, but can also be downright ruthless when necessary. I love that dichotomy.

Thank you so much, Lauren, for taking the time to answer my questions!  I have to say, that after reading Running to Stand Still, Collin has made his way into my Book Boyfriend Top 10.  My son would like me to tell you that he wholly approves of your MSU choice!  I look forward to reading your books in the future (especially a series about witches!).  Congratulations on the new release!
