Ellie Pagan has a list of reasons to stay away from Ford
Landry.
It’s a mile long and was so much easier to stick to when he
was a world away. Now that he’s standing in front of her—body hard and chiseled
from a stint in the military, suit cut to perfection, and a smirk she could
never resist—remembering all the reasons why just got a whole lot harder.
Ford gets Ellie isn’t his biggest fan. He just doesn’t care.
Standing in front of him, giving him hell, she’s even
prettier than he remembered. All he can think about is how she felt in his
arms, the taste of her kiss, the sound of her giggle in the middle of the
night. He may not know how to win her back, but he does know this: he may have
let her go once, but that’s one mistake he won’t make again.

It’s impossible
not to smile that he remembered my drink of choice. It’s also hopeless to
pretend that the boyish grin he’s flipping me doesn’t melt away some of the ice
around my heart.
Still, I
don’t want to play nice.
“I already
had coffee today. But thank you,” I say politely.
“No
offense, but you are kind of irritable this morning. Maybe you could use
another shot of caffeine.”
“You think
I’m irritable now? Keep it up.”
“You never
were a morning person,” he laughs. “Some things never change.”
“And some
things do,” I point out, giving him a look. “Seriously, why are you here?”
“I have
business with Violet. Remember?”
“That’s
bullshit anyway, but she’s not here. You’ll have to come back later.”
“Is that an
invitation?” he laughs.
“Did it
sound like one?” My arms cross over my chest and I’m aware it makes my boobs
look bigger. As his eyes drop and catch the top of my cleavage, his gaze burns
a trail on the ascent back up to my eyes.
Satisfaction
paints a smug look on my face and desire burns in the apex of my thighs. As
discreetly as possible, I clench my legs together to quell a bit of the ache
that’s beginning to throb under his observation.
When our
gazes meet, his is crackling. He lifts a single brow. “I damn sure hope that’s
an offer to come. If it’s not, we have a problem on our hands.”
“No, you have a problem on your hands,” I
say, shrugging. “It has nothing to do with me.”
“It could.”

My Review:

4.5 stars!

Chanel Cleeton keeps getting better and better with every book in this series.  On Broken Wings will gut you with emotion, chew you up and spit you out, only to reward you with a beautiful and satisfying happily-ever-after.  This book is one heck of a ride!

Dani lost her husband, Joker, years ago.  She’s kind of lost, but when Alex “Easy” Rogers, who was Joker’s best friend, offers to help her fix up her house, she accepts.  Easy has been in love with Dani for years and he is consumed with guilt over his feelings.  He feels like he is betraying Joker.  Dani develops feelings for him, too, and she is feeling a bit guilty herself.  But, one night, they finally give in.  Then, something happens and things get a little messy from there.

Cleeton writes all her characters with such feeling and love.  Easy is by far my favorite of all the guys.  He loves hard, yet, he feels so much guilt over his feelings for Dani.  I felt for the guy.  I wanted to give him a hug and tell him to just hold on because things were going to get better.  Weird?  Yep.  Dani was easy to love, too.  She just has this way about her and her personality is great.  The chemistry is palpable.  The sex is hotter than hot.  But, the story here is the real winner.  It just sucks you in and you can’t put it down.

I can’t wait for you guys to read this one.  Cleeton is a talented author and this book is her best one yet.

Blog Tour: Solid Ground by Megan Green! Read my review below…

Title: Solid Ground
Series: Wounded Love #3
Author: Megan Green
Release Date: Nov 17, 2016

From piggy back rides to promise rings.

Joey Roberts and Nichole Hadley were inseparable from the moment they met on the playground. Years later, with graduation looming and their future about to begin, they were positive nothing could tear them apart.

Until one bad decision.

More than a decade following their breakup, Joey returns to town after suffering a devastating injury in Iraq. With a new job on the police force and a new house to fix up, he knows he’ll have no trouble keeping his mind and body occupied.

But when a call brings him face to face with a broken and battered Nichole Hadley-Reynolds, it ignites a flame he’d long thought extinguished.

Joey was certain he’d forgotten Nichole.

Nichole doubted she still held a place in his heart.

Will this be the start of a second chance at lost love? Or will they remain floating adrift, forever in search of…

Solid Ground?

My Review:

4.5/5 Stars!!

Spoiler Free Review

I was lucky enough to get to read the three books in this series back to back.  Let me tell you…there is a Kleenex graveyard in the trash can by my bed.

Solid Ground is the story of Joey and Nichole.  Joey was first introduced in the second book and was sort of the funny one.  He could be counted on to provide some much needed laughter-filled relief.  But in Solid Ground, we get to see the real Joey…and there isn’t anything funny anymore.  He has suffered big time while in Iraq and now that he is back home, all he wants to do is keep his mind occupied and stay out of his own head.  Nichole isn’t in much better shape.  He unknowingly comes to her rescue and all those buried sparks shoot to the surface.

I love second chance romances.  They are by far my favorite.  This one was really good.  Two people once happy with each other, now apart and broken until fate intervenes.  It is a classic tale and done oh so well.

This series has gotten better and better with each book.  Solid Ground is definitely the best to date (but I keep saying that, so…).  I can’t wait to see what else Megan Green brings us.

You know how, in movies, when people wake up in the hospital, they never seem to know where they are? The camera fades in, and everything is sort of fuzzy as the person lying in the bed takes in their surroundings. The bright lights. The sterile smells. The way they never quite seem to be alone, regardless of whether someone is actually in the room with them. You’re supposed to feel sympathy for this character. Feel bad that they’ve gone through something so traumatic and out of the ordinary that it takes several minutes for their brain to catch up.
You know what I feel for those people?
Jealousy.
I know exactly where I am when my eyes finally crack open. I don’t get those few minutes of blissful unawareness before I remember what happened that landed me here.
I remember everything.
You see, this isn’t the first time I’ve woken up alone in a hospital bed.
And it won’t be the last time either unless you wake your ass up and do something about it, a little voice niggles at the back of my mind.
That’s also something I’ve experienced before. That voice of reason always hangs out somewhere in my head.
Too bad I never listen to her.
I brace my hands on each side of my legs in an attempt to push myself up into a sitting position. The second I put pressure on my left hand, a blinding pain shoots up my arm and into my shoulder. Glancing down, I find my hand and forearm are encased in a cast.
Great. Another broken bone.
“What did you and Daddy do this morning?”
Cade’s eyes brighten as he recounts his day, “Daddy said you needed to sleep after you got home from the hospital. So, after he picked me up from Mrs. Wilson’s house, we went to get pancakes, and then he took me to the park. Zach was there. We played on the monkey bars. I crossed them five times before I fell, Mom!”
I eat up every bit of his excitement. “You did? Wow! I bet that’s some sort of record.”
He nods emphatically. “I’m pretty sure it is. Zach was so mad. He used to be better than me, remember, Mom? But he only crossed three times. I beat him by two whole times!”
“He was amazing out there. Best monkey-bar crosser I’ve ever seen; that’s for sure,” James interjects, interrupting the moment between me and Cade.
We both turn to look at him again, and I finally register his appearance. He’s dressed nice—neatly pressed black slacks with a crisp white button-down, rolled up to his elbows. In his left hand, he’s holding a huge bouquet of red roses, arranged perfectly with sprigs of baby’s breath shooting up between them. They’re gorgeous. And I can’t stand the sight of them.
After every one of our episodes, I always get one of two versions of James. The first version is the James I’ve come to know. The James who blames me for everything. He shows up the next day, telling me he’s sorry, but if I’d just listen to him, obey him, like I vowed to do on our wedding day, then these things wouldn’t happen. It doesn’t matter that he might be angry because a judge ruled against him or that he might have had a particularly bad day at work. If he comes home and takes it out on me, it’s still somehow my fault.
And then there’s this James. I’ve only seen this James on a few occasions since the night we brought Cade home from the hospital. This James is charming. He brings flowers. He promises that things will be different from now on. That he’ll never hurt me again. That he’ll go back to therapy. He tells me how much he loves me and Cade and how he couldn’t survive without us. He apologizes for not only hurting me this time, but also for every other time before. He cries. He sobs. He tells me I’m the only woman on earth he’ll ever love. He makes me feel sorry for him.
I hate this version of James. As crazy as it sounds, I prefer the former. At least with that James, I know where I stand. I know that, no matter what I say or do, it’s never going to be right. And I’ve come to accept that things are not going to change. This is my life, so there’s no use in wishing for something different.
But then this James…this James confuses me. This James reminds me of the way things were before we were married and while I was pregnant. This James reminds me that things weren’t always so bad, and it gives me hope that things can go back. That we can be happy again. That Cade might finally have two loving parents, like he deserves.
This James is a liar. I know that. After falling for it several times before, I know nothing is going to change. Not in the long run. We might have a few good weeks following his plea where he dotes on me and Cade, making us believe we’re the most important things in his world.
But, inevitably, things go back to the way they were. All it takes is one bad day, and we fall back into the same pattern as before—James coming home angry, James coming after me, Cade running next door to stay with Mrs. Wilson until I come to get him. That’s something we established after he was old enough to understand what was going on.
“When Daddy is mad, you go next door until Mommy comes and gets you.”
These are the things I taught my toddler. While other mothers are teaching their kids the ABCs and 123s, I’ve been teaching mine what to do while his father beats the shit out of his mother.
Megan lives in Northern Utah with her handsome hubby, Adam. When not writing, chances are you’ll find her curled up with her Kindle. Besides reading and writing, she loves movies, animals, chocolate, and coffee. Lots and lots of coffee. She loves hearing from readers, so drop her a line!

Excerpt

The world passed by in colors of green and blue. Not a single color to remind me of the place where I had spent the last four years of my life. But I didn’t need much of a reminder. Those thoughts were imbedded in my brain, flashes of moments that came and went whenever they pleased. No matter what I tried, I could never get away from the desert. Not even on this train, drowning in the colors of lush trees and shimmering rivers that blur before my eyes. Just as buildings and houses began to pop up among the trees, the click-clack of the train wheels began to slow.“Main Street Station,” the conductor’s voice echoed through the car. Other men in camouflage stood before me, all of them staring out the window at the approaching train station. I stared with them, holding on to some small shred of hope that Grace would be waiting for me. But I knew that wouldn’t be. I hadn’t told anyone I would be arriving early, so there was no way she could have known. But some part of me hoped she would feel my homecoming and show up on a whim. To see only a glimpse of her face would make this agony a little less harsh.

Soldiers, Sailors, and Marines dashed for the exits with their duffle bags thrown over their backs. I took a deep breath and stood, making my way to the front of the car. The conductor shook my hand before I stepped down to the platform. No words were spoken, but I nodded when I met his eye. After all, I did this for him. I did this for everyone.

I stepped off the train, and for the first time in my life, I adored Southern humidity. I breathed it in, letting the moist air fill my chest. And then I coughed, the sand rattling my lungs. I looked around me, feeling jealous of the many joyous reunions. I had seen my fair share of battles, but coming home was going to be the worst battle I ever had to endure. A homecoming without my father. A homecoming without the love of my life. Some things couldn’t be fixed, but I could still undo one wrong. I could tell my daughter I was her father.

“Can you just talk to me for a minute?”
“What is there to talk about?”
At that, he purses his lips, his blue eyes intensifying. “Come on, Paisley.”
“How can you not see that she is all over you?” I ask, exhausted. “And worse, she’s better than me – in literally every way. Do you know what that’s like? To see you with her, behaving so naturally, while I feel like an alien from not just another planet but another galaxy?”
“Yeah, I think I do have an idea,” he says pointedly. I don’t have to read too much into his glare to know he’s referring to Tanner.
“Oh, please. It’s not the same with Tanner and you know it.”
“How is it any different?”
“Because! Tanner is my best friend!”
“And Rachel is mine!”
His words effectively knock any further argument I had off the table, and it’s all I can do to just close my mouth and stare at him.
Did he really just say that?
I knew they were close, but best friends? And why does it sting to hear him say that about her and not me?
Corbin shakes his head. “Paisley, I love you. I love you with every ounce of blood in my beating heart.” He pauses, lifting his hat long enough to run a rough hand back through his disheveled hair before replacing it again. “But what you just did was completely uncalled for and immature.” As if I didn’t already feel like shit. “I’ll give you your space, but when you come back, you need to apologize. And not just to my parents. To Rachel, too.”
With that, he turns and slowly walks back to the house, leaving me stranded in the road.
And feeling more alone than ever.

Song Chaser (#2)

For more than a year, Tanner West has tried to shake his feelings for his long time best friend, Paisley Bronson. She was the perfect girl to fit the lyrics in all his favorite songs – the girl he had always wanted. When she fell in love with another man before Tanner had the chance to tell her how he felt, he was left with no resolve to find love again. Burying himself in school and easy girls has become his new lifestyle, but when Kellee Brooks shows up at his favorite bar, he begins to think there may be another verse to his song, after all.
Kellee Brooks moved to New York City for one thing: escape. Growing up in a small town where her entire life was planned out for her, she’s desperate to break free and find herself without following the same path as her mom. Kellee thought working at the local dive bar would mean more money for school, but when she meets the smoldering, scarred honey eyes of Tanner West, she finds there’s much more hiding in the smoky building than just a few tips.
With Paisley still haunting Tanner and Kellee vowing to save anyone the trouble of loving her, will the pain and fear keep them apart – or will they find a way to rewrite their song together?
Break free with this heartbreaking story of letting go and letting love in.

My Review:

Rating: 5/5 stars!!

Into the Blue is a beautifully written second chance love story that had me swooning from start to finish. I cried like a baby with happiness at one of the best HEAs I’ve ever read!

Eric and Becca were once engaged, until he walked away from her leaving her with nothing but a note and a broken heart.  Ten years later, Eric reappears in Becca’s life out of the blue.  Those feelings of hurt and anger toward Eric return with a vengeance.  Eric has never stopped loving Becca and is determined to win her back.  Except…there’s the pesky issue with why they broke up in the first place.  They wanted different things.

This book…oh my, this book!!!  If you haven’t put this on your TBR or, even better, bought it, do it…do it RIGHT NOW!  This book has all the feels!  I ugly cried more than once.  And the ending…oh my, the ending!

Trust me on this one…you MUST read this book!

AUTHOR INFORMATION:

Originally a Florida girl, CHANEL CLEETON moved to London where she received a bachelor’s degree from Richmond, The American International University in London and a master’s degree from the London School of Economics and Political Science. Chanel fell in love with London and planned to stay there forever, until fate intervened on a Caribbean cruise and a fighter pilot with smooth dance moves swept her off her feet. Now, a happily ever after later, Chanel is living her next adventure.

Law school made Chanel realize she’d rather spend her days writing sexy stories than in a courtroom, and she hasn’t looked back since. An avid reader and hopeless romantic, she’s happiest curled up with a book. She has a weakness for handbags, her three pups, and her husband.

Chanel writes contemporary romances, women’s fiction, and thrillers. She is published by Harlequin HQN, Penguin/InterMix, and Penguin/Berkley and is the author of the International School, Capital Confessions, Assassins, and Wild Aces series.
