New Release! 5 Stars for Razing Grace by Amo Jones

Title: Razing Grace
Series: The Devil’s Own #3
Author: Amo Jones
Genre: Romance
Release Date: October 11, 2016

Blurb

I was light, and I was pure. Until I wasn’t. Millie
I’m Millie Hart, and for as long as I can remember, I’ve dedicated my life to my Catholic faith. It was a part of me every step of the way. So when I decided to join a nunnery, no one in my family was surprised. I’m not sure at what point my life changed or where it went extremely wrong. My nightmares are becoming realities as my world starts to slowly tremble under the ground I’m presently shackled to. I was taken. Everything I thought I knew was about to rain down on me in drops of lies, deceit, and undiluted evil.

Tripp/Raze
I’m more machine than man. I’m the alpha and the omega of The Army, and the leader of The Sinister Six Masked Huntsmen. I live and bleed this life. The arms that raised me weren’t carrying love— they were carrying knives and AKAs. I’m agent 000, the executioner, and the damn devil who walks in the flesh. No one can break through my hard shell— not even her.

*This is book Three in The Devil’s Own series but can be read as a standalone.

My Review:

5/5 Stars!

I am telling you…you want this book!

Amo Jones goes dark, really dark in Razing Grace, a story of duty, revenge, redemption and above all love. It is ugly and dark and messy and crazy insane. There are some seriously messed up moments that will leave your mouth gaping. Then, just when you think you can’t take anymore, Jones sneaks in these beautiful moments of light and love and redemption.

Millie starts off as this meek, innocent young woman, but we get to see her morph into this true badass. She suffers…a lot, but the journey is engrossing. She pulls everyone around her into her orbit. Her relationship with Tripp/Raze is dark and complicated and oh so deep, but it is so satisfying to see how she handles him and changes him. There is another man in her life, Razes’s best friend/brother, Miles. Miles and Millie have this pure and beautiful friendship and I know you won’t be able to help falling in love with him like I did.

Tripp/Raze is a whole mess of complication. He is dark and ugly (personality, not looks) and lives his life with no emotions. He kills for a living and for revenge. He is like a puzzle box. You have to work through the steps to get to the prize in the middle, his heart. It is there, but it is well-protected and rarely used. His interactions with most of the characters are cold and calculated, but with Miles and Millie, you get glimpses of what is underneath.

Razing Grace begins dark and gets darker. It is not an easy read, but it is so worth it. It ends on a very heartbreaking and emotional cliff-hanger that literally made me scream and cry and then grab my phone an message Amo Jones to tell her what a freaking genius she is!

Do NOT miss out on this book!

How do you allow yourself to live out the life set before you when you are the other one?

My Review:
4/5 Stars
This is a fantastically heartwarming novel of turning life around after faced with tragedy and finding love.

Tripp is a beautiful soul. He suffered a tragic event that changed him forever. Now he sees the beauty in unexpected things. Then he meets Lauren, a girl who is as broken as he is. Her hauntingly sad eyes intrigue him. They form a friendship which grows into something more.

These two authors know how to use all the feels. I immediately fell in love with Tripp and I loved reading along as he and Lauren grew and came together.

Fabulous read!!

From the belly of the kitchen, the chime on the front door can be heard, signaling a customer’s arrival.  It’s then I realize I’m still standing in the spot Wyatt left me. Everyone else is busy with their jobs, zipping around, oblivious to my presence. So, I turn my gaze to my feet and walk back through the swinging doors.
As I pass through to the dining area, movement catches my attention. Wanting a glimpse at what my job will be like, I pause; thinking a waiter or waitress will be coming any second. Turning my head just a little, I watch as a young woman slides into a booth, all the way to the inside as if she’s making room for someone to sit next to her. Her eyes are focused on the window, never looking down or at a menu, and I can’t help but stand there and stare at her.
A throat clears, making me jump, and I don’t know if I should feel relieved or embarrassed to see Wyatt standing behind me.
“She’s a regular,” he tells me, looking over at the same girl. “She comes in every Thursday and sits in that same booth, but she doesn’t order or say much. We just leave her be.”
“Okay,” I say as Wyatt leaves me standing. For some reason, my eyes are still on the girl. It seems like a strange thing for someone to do—come and sit at a café, but never order anything—but I’m sure she has her reasons, and to be honest, I’m happy to know I’ll have at least one easy customer.
I can do this.
As I head for the front door, I give my future non-customer one last glance. I expect her to continue staring out the window, so when she turns around and our eyes meet, it catches me off guard. My body freezes—not just because she makes eye contact or for the fact that she’s beautiful, but also because I don’t think I’ve ever seen eyes quite as sad as hers. They’re dark and deep and full of unshed emotion. Something about them—her—makes my heart clench. I haven’t had a reaction like this to a girl in a long time. The feeling practically levels me.
Quickly, I turn away, averting my gaze back to the floor and forcing my feet forward. The second my hand is on the doorknob, my pulse begins to race, and beads of sweat break out on my forehead, sure signs of a panic attack looming over me like a ticking time bomb.

In case you didn’t notice, there are two of us.

We’re both from the south, one just a little further than the other.

Jiff was born and raised in Louisiana. She’s now living in Texas with her two teenagers and a bulldog named Georgia Rose. She loves purple and 80’s movies and geeking out at Comic Cons.

Jenny Kate was born and raised in Oklahoma. She’s the mom of a twelve-year-old and two Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, Wrigley and Oliver. She also loves Kris Bryant, the Chicago Cubs and coffee.

Some people think we’ve been friends forever, but in reality, we’ve only known each other for five years. Four of those years, we’ve spent spinning tales and writing words. Our first published book, Finding Focus, was released in November 2015.

If you like a romance set in the south, then you’ll love our southern fried fiction with heart and soul.

New Release! Only For Your Touch (Lick #2) by Naima Simone

Title: Only For Your Touch
Series: Lick #2
Author: Naima Simone
Release Date: Oct 10, 2016

The Boston press calls her the Mob Princess. I call her trouble.

Discretion is my business, and the reporters dogging her every step are bad news. She’s looking to rebel, to tarnish her naïve “good girl” image by getting dirty with me. I gave up a career as a thief, but Corrine Salvaggi’s wide eyes and sinful mouth damn near begs me to steal her innocence. To corrupt her.

Lucky for her, I deal in sex.

Whatever your fantasy, I deliver. Voyeurism. Threesomes. A little slap and tickle.…

If it’s your kink, I can fulfill it.

So yeah, life is good. Simple.

Until she enters my club.

Still…

It’s just sex. Our little secret.

For now…

Only for A Night – Released May 30, 2016

Rion Ward fought hard to be free of the Irish mob life. Now, as the co-owner of Boston’s hottest aphrodisiac club, he’s traded crime for the ultimate sexual fantasy. But when the “good girl” from his past walks through Lick’s doors, he discovers that his unconsummated hunger for her never abated.

Widowed for two years from a man who felt that anything besides the missionary position was dirty, Harper Shaw is ready to move on. The first step to feeling alive again is sex. Hot, dirty, black-out-from-orgasm sex. And who better to provide it than the brooding, sexy, tatted bad boy-turned-man she’s known for years?

Rion, however, has one stipulation: He’ll be hers only for one night. One night to explore her every fantasy. One night to push her limits. One night to introduce her to a passion that makes both doubt if it will be enough…

Naima Simone’s love of romance was first stirred by Johanna Lindsey, Sandra Brown and Linda Howard many years ago. Well not that many. She is only eighteen…ish. Though her first attempt at a romance novel starring Ralph Tresvant from New Edition never saw the light of day, her love of romance, reading and writing has endured. Published since 2009, she spends her days—and nights— creating stories of unique men and women who experience the first bites of desire, the dizzying heights of passion, and the tender, healing heat of love.
She is wife to Superman, or his non-Kryptonian, less bullet proof equivalent, and mother to the most awesome kids ever. They all live in perfect, sometimes domestically-challenged bliss in the southern United States.

New Release + giveaway! Immortal Envy by A. D. Justice

Title: Immortal Envy
Series: Immortal Obsession #1
Author: A.D. Justice
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Release Date: October 10, 2016

Blurb
Two brothers.

Best friends.

Immortals.

One woman – the subject of their mutual obsession, but for very different reasons.

The end result will change the New York City vampire clan forever. Immortals can hold a grudge for a very long time. Constant craving . . . immortal obsession.

My Review:

3/5 Stars!!

I am not a big paranormal fan, in general. There are a few out there I’ve read and enjoyed, so I figured it wouldn’t hurt to give this one a try. I am a fan of A.D. Justice’s other work.

Immortal Envy was intriguing, sexy and a little dark. Ramses and Slade have a centuries old rivalry over the lovely Alea. Now, after many years, that rivalry kicks into high gear when Alea returns. Only she’s changed. She stronger and smarter. What happens next changes the whole vampire scene.

I liked the book, but I couldn’t stop comparing it to The Vampire Diaries. That didn’t stop me from enjoying it though,

If you like sexy vampires and heavy romance, this one is for you.

EXCERPT:

“Landon is perfect!” she squeed, not caring that there were a gaggle of women in the restroom waiting for a turn.
“He’s definitely hot,” I agreed, then asked, mildly confused, “Perfect for what?”
“To take you home tonight and give you a fabulous orgasm!”
I was pretty buzzed, but not so far gone that I didn’t look around at the giggling crowd with embarrassment.
“What? He’s way too young for me.”
“He’s around my age,” Ginger protested. “I think he was a year behind me in school, which makes him twenty-five. He’s sexy, single, and has been looking at you like you’re a rare steak and he’s king of the jungle.”
“No he has not … And that makes him seven years younger than me. He’s practically a teenager,” I argued, leaning back against the wall so I didn’t fall over.
“Pshaw,” she replied, slurring her unintelligible words. “He’s so not a teenager. That man will make you see stars … I’ve heard good things.”

Pageflex Persona [document: PRS0000038_00075]

About Waiting for Tuesday:

All I ever wanted was a home—stability, hard walls, and roots so deep they could withstand the strongest storm. Through long hours and determination, I was finally on my way, signing contracts for my brick and mortar ship, and beginning to feel settled for the first time in my life.

But the night I met John Eaton, I felt that stability crumble. His smile was a mixture of little boy and pure devil at the same time. I knew his type, knew the sort of games that came with men like him.

So I pushed. But he pulled harder. I tried to fight it, to shove away the connection that clawed at my heart, but it was too late. Roots dug in, grew deep, and twisted. John fell for me, and I for him. He was impossible to resist. I was his.

But a secret is a dangerous thing. Held for too long, it can rip a life apart.

Destroy the man I loved.

Destroy us.

Exclusive Excerpt:

I laughed then pulled the door open and let her enter the pub before me. But when I stepped inside, I immediately regretted letting Becky decide our location tonight. A man was literally standing on the bar. Literally.

He held a bottle of whiskey in one hand, tequila in the other, and at least a dozen women lined the seats in front of him like fangirls at a concert. He smiled down at them, a smile that was guaranteed to break hearts, and walked down the line, filling the glasses of women who couldn’t be much over twenty-one.

“I think I know why the parking lot is so full,” I whispered.

All the women were desperate for his attention, which made me look a little closer. He was good looking, sure, but it wasn’t anything I hadn’t seen before. Short, brown hair, almost buzzed, tall, nice build—nothing that warranted women lusting at his feet.

“I hope that’s not Colin,” I stated.

Becky took my hand and pulled me toward the corner. “No, I don’t know who that is, but he sure is popular.” She raised one brow then led me to a table at the back of the room.

I hopped up on a stool and glared across at her. “Organic beer, she said. You’ll fit right in, she said.”

Becky cringed. “I’m sorry, the atmosphere normally isn’t like this. It must be the Toasted Tuesday thing. Dollar shots.”

“Must be.” I opened the menu, determined to make the best of the night, and scanned their impressive list of organics. “I’m only having one beer, then I really need to get to bed.”

Becky sagged a little and frowned. “Come on, you haven’t been out since the launch party. Just stay until Colin gets off work. I promise you won’t turn into a pumpkin.”

I gathered my hair in a ponytail then pulled it over one shoulder. “Okay.” I knew I’d been too much of a hermit lately, and Becky didn’t ask for much. “But as soon as he’s off, I’m going to bed.”

Becky clapped. “Yay. I love you.”

I smiled, and then peered over her shoulder as a dark-haired man approached our table. “Is that Colin?”

Becky spun in her seat and grinned. “Hey, handsome!” She looped her arm around his waist then turned to face me again. “Colin, this is my friend Tuesday. Tuesday, this is Colin.”

He wiped his fingers on a red towel then held his hand out to shake. “It’s nice to meet you.”

I nodded, but a commotion at the front drew my attention. The man who was standing on the bar earlier now had an even larger crowd as he poured drinks from behind it. Three rows deep, mostly women, all standing around as if they were about to win the lottery.

I thought he might be telling some kind of story, because all the women burst into waves of giggles and squeals. I couldn’t help but grin a little myself. He was as animated as a child at Christmas. He kept running his hand over his head, in that boyish sort of way, and his smile was so joyful you’d think he had a pair of toads in his pockets. But as youthful and playful as his expression, his body sent a completely different message. This man was fully-grown: broad shoulders, corded arms, very tall… Suddenly, I could see what all the fuss was about.

My Review:

5/5 Stars!

I continue to be amazed at Amy Braun and this great series.

Amber Sky is a shirt prequel novella that brings us the story of Nash and what drove him to where he is in Crimson Sky. We find out what causes the feud between Nash and Sawyer.

Nash is a fascinating character and this book spotlights him.

A quick read that can be read out of order, but it you haven’t read the series (which, trust me, you want to), then start here.

Great book!!

Excerpt:

Chapter 1

The fight couldn’t have been going worse.

I got that Ryland wanted his champion in the Crater. I got that he wanted to give the Runts and the Dogs a show. I even got that he wanted to push me so I’d stronger, faster, better.

But I didn’t get why he had to pick the two biggest, meanest bastards from the crew to fight me. Two men who wouldn’t stop beating me until I was just a red stain on the ground. The taunts and advice from the crowd over our head didn’t help either.

“Crush ‘em, Nash!”

“Come on, Stanner!”

“Hit him, Dylan, hit him!”

“Nash is costing me bets! Someone kill him already!”

Being the Crater’s reigning champ definitely had its drawbacks.

Stanner moved along the edge of my vision. He lifted his foot, ready to drive it into my head and crush my skull. I rolled, grabbed his foot, and pulled. Stanner barked angrily as he lost his balance and landed hard on the ground. I crunched up and slammed my heel into his chest. There was a loud crack that made Stanner cry out in pain, and gave me a chance to–

If Dylan hadn’t shouted his rage, I never would have known he was coming. He snapped a kick down at my head. I crossed my arms and blocked him, gritting my teeth as his shinbone connected with the bruises on my arms.

I pushed his foot away and blocked the punch that sailed toward my head. I surged to my feet and pushed Dylan back. He swung a fist at my skull. I ducked under it and plowed into him. Dylan might have more muscle than me in this two-on-one brawl, but I wasn’t small or helpless.

The moment he hit the ground, I hammered blows onto him.

Skin bruised and split under my knuckles. Bones crunched and cracked. I didn’t stop when his eyes swelled shut. I’m not sure I would have stopped at all if a thick forearm hadn’t wrapped around my throat and tightened.

I clutched the arm and tried to yank it off, but the hold was good. Wasn’t long before my lungs started to burn. Punches started smashing into my battered ribs, each one harder than the last. Weakening me. Keeping me from fighting back.

But my sight was red. I lost control when I got Dylan on the ground. It was out of my reach now.

And I didn’t want it back.

Growling like an animal, I bent my knees and jumped back, letting myself fall onto the ground. Crushing Stanner beneath me. He screamed as my weight pounded on his fractured chest. The arm around my neck was gone.

Then I rolled off him, and really started the beating.

Stanner couldn’t move. Probably couldn’t breathe. None of that stopped me from kicking and stomping every part of him I laid eyes on. He tried to kill me. Would have killed me.

Should have known better.

Nash!

I stopped. He called my name, shouted it at the top of his lungs. The rest of the crowd fell silent. This probably wasn’t the first time he’d shouted at me.

I looked over my shoulder, lifted my eyes from the wide dirt pit, and found Ryland.

He was impossible to miss, nearly twice as big as me, despite his age. Broad shoulders and swollen biceps strained against his black leather vest. With long grey hair hanging to his shoulders and a wild grey beard, Ryland looked every bit as rabid as the snarling dog tattooed on his chest.

He stood on the rim of the Crater, staring at me with piercing grey eyes. A scowl twisted his weathered face, slowly turning into a smug grin.

“Congratulations,” he said for the crowd to hear. He looked at the rugged Dogs and the filthy Runts. “Let’s hear it for Nash, still the undefeated Crater champion!”

Most of the crowd roared with joy. Others booed. I was too tired to care about which I appreciated more.

A rope ladder was rolled over the edge of the Crater. Before I went to it, I looked back at my opponents. Now that the rage was gone from my vision, I could clearly see what I had done.

Dylan was still lying in a heap, his face red, swollen, and lumped from bruises and broken bones. Stanner groaned and winced, rolling on the ground with his hands wrapped around his ribs and chest as if to hold his bruised and likely broken bones inside his skin.

Horror filled my chest, the way it always did when I finished a fight in the Crater. Crushing shame filled my heart and drowned me. I took a couple steps closer to Stanner, wanting to help him.

He cringed at the sight of me.

“Nash!”

I stopped and glanced over my shoulder at my captain. He was waiting impatiently. As far as Ryland was concerned, anyone beaten in the Crater didn’t need help from the Dogs. Until they proved otherwise, they were beneath us. Weak and useless.

I grabbed the rope ladder and climbed from the Crater, my victory feeling more hollow with every step.

Goodreads / Amazon / Barnes & Noble / iBooks / Kobo / Smashwords / Audiobook

EXCERPT:

“Kassidy, I know you’re in there. Please open the door.” There was a sheer curtain over the glass panes and if I moved across the room he’d see me. All I could hear was the thumping of my heart. “Kassidy, please. I need to talk to you. I’m not leaving until I do. You know I won’t.”

“Shit,” I hissed low. He was right. If anyone had the patience to sit around for hours, it was him. He’d done the same thing to me years ago when I told him I wouldn’t go on a date with him. He stayed on my porch for hours and slept on the swing. At the time, I loved his persistence. I wanted to go on a date with him, but I was curious to see how far he’d go.

Knowing he wouldn’t leave unless I made him, I thrust the door open, embracing the anger I felt welling in my chest. I needed it to get rid of him. Logan stepped back and I held my breath, taking in the desperate look in his eyes. For a second, I could feel my resolve slip, but then I remembered the hurtful words he said to me in the hospital.

“There’s nothing to say, Logan. If you want to say you’re sorry, then say the words and get the hell out of here. Other than that, I have no desire to see or talk to you.”

He looked straight into my eyes. “Saying I’m sorry doesn’t even begin to cover it, but I am. I am so fucking sorry for what I did.”

“Great, you said it. We’re done here. Goodbye Logan.” I slammed the door on him and locked it.

“Dammit, Kassie.”

“Don’t call me that!” I shouted, slamming my hand against the door.

He moved closer to the door and I stepped back. “I know you’re pissed at me, but I need you to hear me out. I’ll stay out here the whole night if I have to.”

“Not if I call the police.”

“They’re not gonna be able to do anything to me. At least, not before I get in there myself.” The doorknob wiggled and I gasped.

“What are you doing? You can’t come in here,” I growled.

“Yes, I can, and I will. If it’s the only way to make you listen I don’t care what I have to do.” He fumbled with the doorknob again and I choked, stumbling back into one of my bar stools. I had no doubt he could get in my house, but I wasn’t going to be in it when he did. Grabbing my phone, I jammed it into my back pocket and raced to my bedroom, locking the door behind me. I had to get out of there fast.

I changed into a pair of jeans and fetched my black leather jacket out of my closet so I could put it on. My motorcycle and helmet were in my garage but all I had to do was climb out my window to get to them. “Kassie!” Logan called out. The front door slammed shut and I sucked in a breath; it was time.

Opening my window, I carefully slipped out. Logan knocked on my bedroom door and tried my handle. “Kassidy, please come out. I don’t want to do this.”

As soon as I was out the window, I raced to my garage. Slamming my helmet on my head, I jumped on my bike and turned the key. The engine roared to life as I revved it and I sped out of the garage as fast as I could. Logan had no idea I could ride, but I wished I could see the look on his face when he saw me. All I knew was that I had to get away from him, and fast.

Once out of the driveway, I took a left turn, clearly realizing the lapse in judgment. It was the road I’d avoided ever since Levi died on it. “Dammit,” I cried. My eyes started to water and there was no way I could wipe the tears away with my helmet on and going down the road. The sound of Logan’s bike drew close behind and I panicked. What was I going to do?

He gained up to me, clearly not stopping unless I did. More tears fell down my cheeks; especially when I arrived at the spot where Levi was ran off the road. I pulled over and shut off my bike, ripping off my jacket so I could breathe. Logan parked beside me, but I jumped off my bike and walked away from him to the dented guardrail. I took off my helmet and stared at the rubber markings on the metal. My fingers traced the tire marks and I broke down, falling to my knees. My heart felt as if it’d been ripped out my chest.

Logan’s hands closed over my shoulders, but I smacked them away. “Don’t touch me.”

His touch left my body, but I could feel his warmth as he sat beside. “I didn’t know you could ride.”

“Levi and Sean taught me after you left. It helped get my mind off of things.” I tried not to look down in the ravine where Levi was found, but I couldn’t help it. The amount of pain he must’ve felt had to be excruciating. I slammed my hand against the guardrail and sobbed.

“I’m gonna miss him too, Kassidy. Levi was a good friend.”

Angrily, I wiped my tears away and scoffed. “How would you know? You left eight years ago and never looked back.”

GET A QUICK PEEK:

The rhythmic pounding of the man running for his life in between Sugar’s and Lexi’s treadmills was more than enough up-close proof that Bishop O’Kane was as physically fit as his profile said. This gym catered to professional bodybuilders but was empty with the exception of one other person and staff. It was elite and niche, and Sugar had basically used her pregnant stomach and her hormones to get them a day pass.

Not exactly Titan-level detective work, but this was more a girl’s trip than anything else… right? Her phone buzzed as she and Lexi walked lazily on either side of their unknowing target.

Lexi: What have we learned? I’m bored.

Sugar: I was bored at home. This was something to do.

Lexi: Right.

Lexi: I think he knows we know each other.

Lexi: Shoot! He’s looking at both of us.

Lexi: SUGAR!

Sugar got off her treadmill and walked calmly to the bathroom. The second she was out of sight, she pulled her phone back out.

Sugar: Do I have to teach you how to creep up on a dude!?!?

Lexi: Maybe…

She tittered to herself. Well, that was probably true. For as hot as Lexi was, she was clueless when it came to the art of flirting. Though they weren’t flirting. But still, spying on a guy took a certain level of finesse that Lexi didn’t have.

Sugar: We need a new game plan.

Sugar: Does he still look suspicious of us?

Sugar: Hello?

Sugar: Hey, Thelma, it’s Louise. Why’d you go radio silent?

Lexi: We have a problem

Sugar: On a scale of 1 to 10, 1 is we need to hit the pancake house again, and 10 is I have to hit up GUNS for the ammo Jared wouldn’t let me have, gimme a number.

She grabbed her bag from a locker and wrestled out of her exercise pants and back into leather pants, which—thank the Lord for maternity adaptation—were more comfortable.

Sugar’s screen blinked with the text.

Lexi: 10. 10. 10.

Sugar: Easy, killer. On my way.

But the text wouldn’t send. The little circle kept circling. No signal. Ugh. What the hell? She pushed out the door to find the hallway dark. A tickle of adrenaline crept up her neck, and she slowed her pace.

“Hello?” A Russian accent called into the bathroom where she had just been.

Training and instinct made Sugar drop to the floor, listening to the voice continue to call and the person go in and out of the locker rooms and whatever rooms were down the other hallway.

Her pulse picked up. She could feel the blood thumping in her neck and in her stomach, which was a change from the norm. But all in all, this was no different than creeping like a shadow on any other job. Except she didn’t know who or what she was dealing with, and she had to hide what felt like an additional few feet of her stomach from view while trying to figure out what the double deuces was happening.

She tried her cell phone again. Shoot. She got nothing but a spinning circle and a no service signal. Clearly, somewhere in the building was a cell-phone jammer, which meant this was more of a professional job than a slam-and-bam robbery.

Okay… what to do?

Slinking down the hallway, she heard no exercise equipment clinking and clanking. No men throwing heavy things. No people grunting as they lifted heavy objects for personal enjoyment. There was only the empty blare of music that, now that all was abandoned and quiet, played far too loud. Her phone continued to cycle without a signal, and Sugar’s eyes searched for signs of anyone in the building—most importantly, Lexi. And where had that searching Russian man gone? She needed a weapon. Fast.

She checked her phone again.

Nope. The hell with it. She tucked it in her back pocket. Across the open floor were hand weights. She could grab a few jump ropes or one of the calisthenics bars while she was there. But crossing the gym was too dangerous. With a view of nothing but treadmills, elliptical machines, and stair climbers, she had nothing but magazines to smack a bad dude with. Nothing deadly.

So the plan for the moment was to keep against the wall and head for the main desk. Surely there was a pair of scissors. A stapler. Hell, she could be deadly with a phone cord. All she needed was the right angle. But really, Sugar stressed about Lexi.

She crept around another corner of the main gym. No one was there.

No Lexi. No Bishop. No random meatheads. No guy with a Russian accent searching for rogue people hiding and creeping.

“What is going on?” Her pulse pounded in her neck, and confusion covered every thought. Only Emergency Exit signs illuminated the room, and the place was eerie.

Her quiet question went unanswered, and the baby took that moment to kick. “Easy, tater tot. I’ve got this.”
