My Review

4 Stars!

Ok. Color me surprised, but I really enjoyed this book.

I am a fan of shifter romances, but I will be the first to admit that I am pretty picky when it comes to this genre. So, I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this book. I think it had a lot to do with the characters – Tank and Foxfire. Foxfire is quirky, smart, and bit wild. Her interactions with Tank were fun. Tank was great, too. He was alpha, but with a softer side. He was torn between pack loyalty and this woman who he couldn’t stop thinking about.

The sexy times were great! But, what I really enjoyed was the suspense component to it. It was great – well thought out, well-executed. The climax resolution was a bit rushed for my liking, but hey, it was still a good read!

If you’re looking for a light, paranormal romance with a suspense component, then this is the perfect read!

unknowingly jumped off a ledge. The question is, will their parachutes open

My Review

4 Stars!

Have you read this series yet? No? Why not? I love this series, well the 1st book is the only one, but now we have Wood and Candy’s story and I loved it! FYI – you do NOT have to read Enchanting Wilder (Book 1), but you really should. It is great!

Wood Wilder and Candy Sawyer have a bit of a complicated relationship, mainly they are attracted to each other but don’t want to be. I love that! Candy is out trying to find herself and answer to some burning questions. She heads out on a road trip with her friends and they run into Wood. Wood can’t help but give Candy a hard time. You can feel the attraction between them despite their banter. When they have to work together and things get dangerous, suddenly the lines are blurred.

Cassie Graham writes a great story and even better characters. Surviving Wilder exceeded my expectations and has left me wanting more of the series, more of the characters. The book moves along at a nice pace and I found myself sucked right into the book from the 1st chapter.

A great paranormal read!

Excerpt

Madelyn
woke slowly, the memories of parents she didn’t know and the life she never had
a chance to live fading to intangible presences at the back of her mind until
they were half-forgotten dreams. Her eyelids were heavy and her tongue felt
like sandpaper. She blinked slowly as the leaden feel of her limbs dissipated
and the fog in her head lightened. She sat up, a thick blanket of white fur
dropping down to her waist.
Fur? She stared around at the master
bedroom she was in.
“Oh my . .
.” The tall four-poster bed was made of dark black wood, a midnight blue
bedspread beneath her and a mountain of feather-soft pillows behind her. She
caught her reflection in a large mirror on a dresser table. Her face was ashen
and her lips pale as she sat in a mountain of expensive white furs. Her hair
was in wild disarray. She threaded her fingers through the messy mane and took
a few steadying breaths. Where was she? She struggled to remember anything
before she’d woken up here.
The
elevator, the man following her, and then Grigori . . . in her hotel room.
Oh my
God. I’ve been kidnapped
.
She curled
her arms around her chest for several seconds, just trying to calm her panicked
breathing. They had kidnapped her and brought her here. A thousand horrible
scenarios ran through her head of what they might to do with her . . . human
trafficking being the worst. The thought of it brought bile up to her throat
and she swallowed, gagging.
Just
calm down
. Just
calm down . . .
Her body
froze, and her heart stopped for a painful second before it jolted back into a
steady beat. She summoned the scholarly side of herself to analyze her
surroundings again. She needed to figure out where she was and what they wanted
from her. Then she could plan her escape. Beside her on the table, was a
leather bound book she was all too familiar with. James’s Barrow’s journal.
Heart still
pounding, she pushed the furs down and slid off the bed. Her sock-covered feet
sank into a creamy white carpet. Madelyn grabbed the nearest bedpost, her
fingers gripping the spindle carved wood as she walked around the king-size
bed. She moved through the room and caught a teasing sense of something dark,
pine and masculine. A scent she’d recognized when she’d been standing close to
the man in the suit who’d looked just like Grigori from the journal. He
couldn’t be Grigori. She didn’t know his name, so she might as well call him
that until she figured out who he really was.
Grigori. He was everywhere in this room,
from the elegant furnishings to the clothes hanging in the closet. Madelyn
wasn’t sure how she knew it was his room aside from the lingering scent, but it
just felt like this was part of his world. She couldn’t explain it. She’d never
been in a man’s bedroom before and it was exciting and scary.
Why had he
brought her here? How had they knocked her out? And why did he want to know why
she’d been interested in James Barrow’s book? She had a thousand questions and
no answers. The smart thing would be to find her shoes and coat and get out of
here . . . no matter how intrigued she was with the mystery of Grigori Barinov.
She bent
down and looked in the closet and under the bed for her boots but couldn’t find
them. She had a sneaking suspicion he had hidden them to keep her from
escaping. She approached the beautifully carved bedroom door, gripping the
antique glass doorknob. Would it be locked? Was she a prisoner? She turned the
knob and it gave beneath the pressure.
The door
opened and she entered a small corridor, passing a lavish master bathroom with
a large tub and an oversized glass shower. Whoa. The next room she
entered opened into a huge library and an office. Then the apartment gave way
to a large living room with the kitchen at the back and a dining room. A
roaring fire in a square pit in the center of the living room sparkled over
crystal stones. A wing backed chair facing the fire creaked slightly and a
masculine hand extended past the arm of the chair as it swirled a glass of
wine.
Someone was
sitting there . . .
Madelyn
held her breath, listening to every sound from the antique grandfather clock in
the hall ticking away to the sounds of the man in the chair turning the pages
of his book. The hand holding the glass suddenly disappeared and the chair
creaked again as the occupant stood and turned to face her.
It was
Grigori. He looked too damn sexy, and intimidating, in that expensive suit. His
light hair fell across his blue eyes and he gazed at her with an unreadable
expression. Her heart was racing again, and blood roared in her ears as she
watched him, afraid of what he might do.
“You’re
awake,” he noted. He moved slowly, setting the wine glass on the table beside
his chair.
“Why am I
here?” She was careful to keep a safe distance between them. They were facing
each other, like two animals measuring each other up before they decided to
fight or not. She wouldn’t hesitate to throw anything at him within her reach
to escape.
“You’re
here because you checked out a book.”
His cryptic
reply made her bristle. The last thing she should be was argumentative, but she
suddenly wanted to be brave in front of him.
“Is that
against the law?” she asked, tilting her chin. She may have been scared out of
her mind, but she was not going to let him see it.
Grigori’s
lips twitched. “No, but that book belongs to me.”
She
stiffened. “Then why did you leave it in a public library? You do understand
that’s how libraries work, right?” How she had the nerve to be snarky, she’d
never know.
He placed
one hand on the back of the leather chair, his finger slowly tapping a pattern
as though he was channeling all of his energy into the movement.
“A fiery
creature,” he murmured. “I like that.” This was uttered so softly she thought
she’d imagined it.
“So you
have the book back, you can let me go. I can leave, can’t I?” Her eyes
darted around the room, seeking out the front door. She inwardly groaned when
she realized the only way out was behind him. She’d have to get past brooding,
sexy, and scary Grigori.
“No, I’m
afraid you cannot leave. I have questions that require answers.” He took two
steps toward her. It took everything inside Madelyn not to retreat. She sensed
that any sign of weakness would trigger his animal instincts. He was an
aggressive predator who looked too intense to be in this lush apartment.
“Ask your
questions and then let me go.” She wanted to curl her arms around herself, but
instead planted hands on her hips.
Grigori
arched one eyebrow, calmly removed his coat and laid it on the back of the
chair. His gray wool vest showed off his muscular chest and his tapered waist.
She licked her lips, nervous and all too aware of him and in way she shouldn’t
be given that he had kidnapped her. The image of his face in the journal, the
sketch dated 1821, haunted her. It couldn’t be the same man. That was
impossible. But the likeness . . .
“Who sent
you after the book?” Grigori asked as he rolled up the sleeves of his crisp
white shirt. It revealed muscular forearms, which were also sun-kissed. Her
skin prickled and she tried to swallow the lump of fear in her throat.
“No—no one
sent me. I came here on my own.”
Grigori
nodded to himself, smiling a little as he walked over to the kitchen and opened
a cabinet.
“Would you
care for some wine? It’s a fine vintage.” He held up a bottle and a glass.
“Did you
seriously just offer me a drink? You’ve kidnapped me! For god knows what
reason. You’d better let me leave right now or—”
“Or what?”
Grigori was studying her through hooded eyes. “Ms. Haynes, I understand you are
frightened, but I’m not planning on harming you. We’re merely going to have a
discussion. Once I have learned all that I need, you shall be free to go.”
“You . . .
you promise?” She had no reason to trust him if he did make such a promise, but
part of her wanted to trust him. Part of her was still fixed on the man in the
journal, the one she felt she knew somehow from dreams within dreams.
“I promise.
I have no intention of hurting you. I merely needed a chance to speak to you
privately. On my honor.” He touched his freed hand to his chest with his
fingers curled into a fist. The motion was archaic, like something a knight
from the Middle Ages might do as he pledged himself to the lord of a castle.
Madelyn
weighed her options—not that she really had any. If she was trapped here she
wasn’t going to make a fool of herself trying to escape until she had a real
chance. She wasn’t sure if she believed him, but part of her wanted to. She’d
never felt so torn in her life. All logic and basic instincts were screaming to
run away from the man who kidnapped her, but there was a deeper part of her,
whispering to her to stay and trust. It was like she was staring at his picture
in the library all over again and she couldn’t look away, couldn’t leave.
If I
play along, it might help me buy some time to figure out a real plan of getting
out of here
.
Grigori
waved the bottle in the air. “Well?”
“Sure. One
glass,” she finally replied. God, please don’t let me trusting him a little
be a huge mistake.
“Good.” He
walked over, setting a glass directly in front of her on the black granite
countertop. They were only inches apart now. His body so tall and intimidating
compared to hers. A nauseating pounding started in her head and her skin
tingled like it had in the elevator with that other man.
She closed
her eyes, steadying her suddenly shaky legs. How was it that this man could
rattle her? Was it because he’d kidnapped her and she was freaking out . . . or
was it something else? She’d been scared plenty of times, but it had never been
like this. This felt . . . different. She didn’t feel right, like her body was
trying to change inside. It didn’t make sense.
A hand, his
hand brushed a lock of her hair back from her face, leaving a sizzling
sensation behind wherever he touched her. As she opened her eyes, she saw him
lean close to her and inhale deeply.
“Are you
sniffing me?” she asked in a shaky whisper.
He exhaled
slowly, his full lips suddenly in a firm line. “You smell good. Too good,” he
growled softly. His hand reached up again, but it stopped inches from her. And
that was when she felt it. A faint breeze ruffled her hair, playing with the
strands. Grigori stayed motionless, his eyes narrowed. And just like that, the
unexplainable breeze vanished.
Madelyn
held her breath, hoping he would move first. He finally stepped back.
“Did Damien
MacQueen send you?” he asked as he turned and walked away from her, back to the
fridge. The distance growing between them seemed like a vast chasm. It should
have been a relief, but it wasn’t.
I am
going nuts. Seriously nuts
.
He opened
the door and stared at the contents before shutting it and frowning.
“Who is
Damien MacQueen?” she asked. The name was one she didn’t recognize. Grigori
stared at her for a long moment as though discerning whether she spoke the
truth.
“So the
brotherhood didn’t send you.” He placed his palms on the counter, leaning
forward slightly as he stared at her. The man had that intense gaze down to a
T. She was frozen in place, unable to look away from him as he watched her. She
tried to study him back, analyzing the way his jaw seemed to be cut from
Italian marble and his straight nose gave him an air of distinction. He was
gorgeous—for a kidnapper.
“You are a
professor?” Grigori asked.
“Yes, at
Ellwood University.” She lifted her glass of wine and tried to take a sip. The
wine was soft and dark on her tongue. A truly expensive wine without any bitter
aftertaste. The floral bouquet hit her taste buds and finished with a hint of
smoky wood.
“You like
to research?” he asked.
Weirdly, it
almost felt like she was on a date. These were like the usual questions: Who
are you? What do you do for a living? Do you like it? But this wasn’t a date.
It was the farthest thing from it.
“I do . .
.” she hesitated, trying to figure out what to do.
“And you
enjoy history?” he asked as he sipped his wine, his blue eyes still fixed on
her in a way that made her uncomfortable.
“Yes,” she
paused, trying to focus on answering him but also staying alert. “History is
steady. You know it’s always going to be the same, no matter how much you look
back on it. I like the predictability.”
“But you
fear the future,” he mused.
She
bristled. “I don’t fear the future, I just . . . I just don’t trust things to
happen the way I want them to sometimes.” She’d expected her visit to Russia to
be a safe one instead of getting kidnapped by someone like him.
“You have
nothing to fear in your future,” he promised again. “At least not from me.”
There it was, that solemnity in his gaze that almost seemed to beg her to trust
him.
The hanging
lamps in the kitchen illuminated Grigori’s golden hair as it fell into his eyes
again. Madelyn had the desire to brush those gold strands away from his face
with her fingertips. And that was a crazy desire, because this man had
kidnapped her and she shouldn’t want to be touching him.
“God, I’ve
got a bad case of Stockholm Syndrome,” she muttered. She lifted her wine glass
to her lips and took another sip.
“Look, I
don’t know any Damien and I have no idea what the brotherhood is. You have your
book back so I see no reason for you to keep me here.”
He ignored
her as he pulled out his cell phone. “Are you hungry? I believe I’ll have dinner
brought up.”
“I’m not—”
her stomach rumbled treacherously and he had to hear it because he smirked. He
was smirking at her . . .
“Dinner,
then we talk.” He dialed a number and spoke in rapid Russian to the person on
the other end of the line. She had thought it was a rough language before but
listening to him speak it sounded musical.
I really
need to take more Russian classes
. Her two semesters of Russian in graduate school didn’t help her
understand a word of what he’d just said.
“Will you
please tell me who you are?” she asked as he pocketed his phone in his
trousers. He retrieved his own empty glass to refill it with some wine. He
poured the burgundy liquid into the glass and she stared at it before looking
at him again.
“My name is
Grigori Barinov.”
Madelyn bit
her lip. He could not be the Grigori from James Barrow’s book. He had to
be a descendent of the other man, maybe a great-great-grandson.
“Okay . .
.” she whispered. “So you’re descended from the man in the book. The one in the
sketch?” She thought again about man’s face, the melancholy smile and the
almost indulgent gentleness. That man was a mystery, just as this man was, but
this Grigori’s features were harder, colder. She still had a strange longing to
meet the man in the sketch.
“No. I am
not descended from the man in the sketch. I am that man.”
Madelyn
laughed. “That’s funny.” She had plenty of people make fun of her over the
years for dragon research.
“I do not
jest, Ms. Haynes. You have stumbled into terra incognita. Do you know
what that means?”
Madelyn
swallowed thickly. “It means ‘territory unknown.’ I’ve seen it on old maps.”
“Very
good,” Grigori praised.
He lifted
his wine to his lips and took a slow sip, those blue eyes of his piercing her,
pinning her in place. “And do you know what else those maps said exactly?” The
clink of his glass on the counter was the only sound in the room because
neither of them dared to breathe.
And then
she said the words, the ones that had been stirring like a serpent in a dark
cave at the back of her mind since the moment she brushed her fingertips over
the sketch of his face in the book. Surely he couldn’t be suggesting what she’d
always been too afraid to even contemplate . . . The words hovered on the tip
of her tongue as she stared at him, hypnotized.
“Here there
be dragons,” she whispered.
The words
drifted between them and although she and Grigori stood six feet apart, that
space ceased to exist. His eyes were no longer blue, but a molten gold color,
the pupils sliding into reptilian slits. That was impossible . . .
“Here there
be dragons,” he echoed in a husky whisper, and Madelyn screamed.

With tensions rising between the Council and demonkind, Kelsey finds herself investigating a series of murders that threaten the fragile truce between them. If she can’t stop these killings soon, they could ignite a fire sure to burn the supernatural world down.

Unfortunately for her, Kelsey’s problems don’t stop with a pile of dead halflings. Her connection with Marcus is frayed at best, and Gray hasn’t been heard from in months. Her only semblance of peace comes from a new man in her life. When Gray storms back into the picture, her love life goes from incredibly complicated to apocalyptic.

Just as Kelsey begins to unravel the mystery, the forces of Heaven decide to take an interest in her actions. Outclassed with these powers in play, Kelsey knows that one misstep could leave the human and supernatural worlds in ashes.

My Review

4.5 Stars!!

Kelsey and the gang are back again to fight another big bad and this is the best one yet!

Kelsey continues to come into her powers and gets stronger every day. Her love life is still a hot mess, but while some things are resolved another twist is thrown in the mix and it is hot and sexy! This story involves the safety of Kelsey’s family and she is in it to win it like never before.

I love this series! I seriously can’t get enough. I love the characters, the immersive world and the ever-fluid state of Kelsey’s love life. I mean who wouldn’t want a demon, a vamp and a werewolf fighting over you? Am I right? The introduction of the third party only makes things that much hotter! The danger is ever-present, but now that it involves Kelsey’s family, she ramps up her fight. I couldn’t put this one down!

A must read paranormal romance!

“Your Highness, please back away. In fact, it would be best if you left the room altogether.” Felix put himself between me and Roberts. “Kelsey, I need you to push her down. Push her back down for a few moments. Marcus will be back soon and he’s going to take care of you. Being around those angels unsettled you. I don’t know if you noticed, but at the end of the meeting, your ward fell off. You didn’t have it on when Oliver shook your hand. He’s unbalanced and now you are, too. It’s like a contagion for someone like you. Oliver’s illness has called up your inner wolf and she’s angry.”

“Perhaps if I touch her,” Henri began. “I’m an academic. I don’t have the same connection she has with Marcus, but I might be able to help.”

“I’m not unbalanced.” It didn’t matter that my hands were shaking and they had been ever since I’d left the angels behind. “I’m going to talk to the wolf whether you like it or not. He’s been handling silver. It’s the only reason his hands wouldn’t have healed. Even then, a couple of hours would have done it. Unless the freaking silver he held came straight from Heaven. What about it, Roberts? How did you spend last night?”

The wolf was shaking his head. “I don’t know.”

That wasn’t an answer I was willing to accept. I was about to explain that to everyone when Chad stepped up and got in my face.

“I’m taking him out of here now,” Chad explained. “You’ll let me or we’re going to have trouble.”

I was ready for trouble. I was fairly sure I grinned, the idea of fighting a vamp lifting my spirits high. For the first time in what felt like hours, I went still. “You’re not going anywhere.”

Chad turned, his shoulders squaring, and I felt the world begin to bend around me. Chad belongs to one of the rarest classes of vampire—the magicians. As far as I knew, he was the only one walking the night at this time. He could form illusions so real you could taste food, feel imaginary rain on your skin, utterly believe whatever he wanted you to believe. I’d come up against him before. I might be one of the only people in the world who could see through him.

“It won’t work,” I said calmly as reality seemed to go dark and I heard the hissing of snakes all around me. “Do you not remember what happened the last time you pulled this shit on me? It took three tranqs to take me down. I don’t think you have those on you today.”

“I won’t need them.” Chad lifted his hand and the world shifted.

“Holy shit,” Casey said, climbing up on his desk. “What the fuck is happening?”

Snakes were happening. They were crawling from the woodwork, twitching and hissing my way. The fibers of the carpet beneath my feet lengthened and formed more snakes until they were a menacing mass, threatening everyone in the room.

Well, except for Chad, who had lifted his husband into his arms and prepared to take him away.

I let my wolf loose a bit. She knew this was all an illusion. That primitive part of my brain that Chad was accessing, the lizard brain that merely wanted to survive, was taken over by the wolf inside me. The alpha wolf didn’t want mere survival. She wanted to dominate, and that meant seeing past fear, trusting her instincts over what her eyes perceived.

The minute I opened the door, I felt her surge through me.

“I’m not letting you go. I can’t. I’m conducting a murder investigation, and I believe your boy here just became my prime suspect.” My hands twitched, eager for a fight, and I realized how long it had been since Marcus and I had thrown down.

Too long. Remember that whole thing about needing sex or violence to feed my inner wolf? Well, she was hungry and there was a whole lot of violence in Chad’s eyes.

I welcomed it. I could feel the need rise like a wave threatening to engulf me. This was why I had a trainer in the first place.

I gritted my teeth because Chad turned on his power. I could feel those fucking snakes climbing my legs and sinking their fangs into me. I refused to pay any attention to them despite the fact that I ached to rip the fuckers off me and toss them aside. To do that would have given the magician more power. If I bought into it, if I took my eyes off the only thing in the room that was real, I would end up like Casey, who was screaming like a girl.

“Let me pass, Hunter,” Chad said.

I stood my ground like the good Gandalf I was. Except I kind of wanted to shove my nonexistent staff right up old Chad’s ass, and then we would see if he sent snakes my way again.

The anger rose, rapid and quick, a flash fire coursing through me. I didn’t even realize when I had reached for the fireplace poker. All I knew was it was suddenly in my hands and I was going to use it. I could see myself shoving that piece of wrought iron right through his heart. It wouldn’t kill him. I would need wood for that, but then again, I didn’t want the fight over so quickly.

I raised the poker, ready to start.

“Stop it, both of you.” Donovan stepped in between us, but I didn’t care at that moment. I hadn’t felt this way in forever, not since Marcus had taken me in. I hadn’t been so out of control that I didn’t care who I hurt as long as I got to hurt someone. I would fuck up Donovan, too. All that mattered was seeing blood, feeling bones crush.

“You see, I told you she’s far gone and I can’t fix her anymore. I’ve called Gray and he has an idea of what to do,” Marcus was saying.

I wasn’t listening.

I started to bring the poker down Donovan’s way, but I was stopped in mid swing. A hand held my wrist, an arm going around my middle and hauling me back against muscled flesh.

“Stop it,” Trent growled in my ear. “You stand down right this second.”

My Review

4 Stars!

A clever and inventive paranormal read. The plot is fast-paced with lots of twists and turns. There are all manor of paranormal beings which added to the lore behind the story. There’s even a twisty, little romance and some steamy sexy times. I would recommend reading book one in the series to get the full experience, but it isn’t absolutely necessary.

Lots of drama, twists and turns in this new paranormal romance from F. G. Adams.

Sia had never seen anything as magnificent. Every inch of him was dense muscle and firm skin swirling with the strange, alien markings, these living, moving testaments of his need for her. Nothing at all like the sun-kissed, golden skin of her past lovers in the colony, including Elyon, whose fine-hewn physical perfection could have made the angels weep.

No, with his massive build and bulging muscles, Trygg looked more demon than angel. And her hungry eyes couldn’t get their fill of him.

“You’re glorious, Trygg.” She smoothed her fingers over his warm muscles and the stunning glyphs that were uniquely his own. “The most incredible man I’ve ever seen.”

His sensual mouth twisted at her praise, but this time he didn’t reject it. His breath sawed out of him, his fangs like pearly daggers as he gazed hungrily at her beneath him.

“Beautiful Sia,” he said, his hands roaming from her waist to the swell of her hip. Gripping her there, he dragged her against his groin, using his hold to crush their bodies more tightly together. “Have you ever been with a Breed before?”

Although phrased as a question, he meant it also as a warning. One that made her veins throb and the heat gathering in the center of her turn even more molten.

She shook her head. “I’ve never wanted to be. Now I can’t think of anything I’ve ever wanted more. Just you.”

With the press of his hard, thick arousal jutting against her, she moaned, suddenly desperate to get even closer. He leaned over her, tugging hard on her hair as he took her mouth again, his hold tilting her head back on her shoulders, baring her throat to him.

She could feel her pulse pounding there and froze, wondering if he wanted to sink his teeth into her flesh. Some wild, reckless part of her wanted him to. Dared him to. Anything to make this dark, needy pull inside her subside. But no, he only skimmed his lips over her skin, leaving a trail of flames in their wake as he moved lower.

About THE NEXT GENERATION

Fitting in can be hard for anyone. But for Julian and Nika Adams, it’s especially challenging. Born as partial vampires, a rare offshoot of pureblood vampires, the twins have had to deceive people their entire lives—distancing themselves from their peers.

Nika desperately wants a hero, a soulmate, someone she can trust with every fibre of her soul—someone as amazing as her father. The boys at her high school aren’t impressing, but luckily for Nika, Hunter Evans has moved into the neighborhood.

Julian desperately wishes he could sever the empathic bond he has with his sister. While it was fun to experience each other’s emotions when they were kids, now that Julian finds himself pining for a girl he can’t have, sharing his feelings is the last thing he wants to do.

Read an excerpt of THE NEXT GENERATION now:

My brother was normally a calm person, not easily ruffled or riled, but Russell was his exception. Consequences aside, Julian would fight him to the death in a bathroom, and drain him dry in an alley; he hated him to the core. And all because Russell was dating the woman Julian was infatuated with: Raquel Johnson.

Raquel was the girl Julian wouldn’t shut up about. They were lab partners for a semester last year, and had developed some sort of friendship during class. But while they talked on occasion, and Raquel seemed to like Julian well enough, Russell was the moon and stars in her eyes. And he treated her like dirt. It was all very tragic, and sometimes I wondered if Julian was only attracted to Raquel because he wanted to save her. He wanted to be her knight in shining armor, wanted to be a hero, like our father. Only problem in this situation was that Raquel didn’t seem to want a knight. Some damsels preferred being in distress.

Just when I was about to yell at Russell to leave already, he and his entourage finally backed away from the shower area. Julian’s body was still tight with anger as the sounds of Russell and his gang started to dissipate. When the heavy door to the locker room banged shut, Julian opened his mouth, exposing his fangs to the boys who were no longer there.

Annoyed, I put my hands on my hips and faced him. “What the hell were you thinking, Julie?”

Julian stepped away from the shower wall; his eyes were still firmly locked on the locker room exit. “You didn’t need to rush in here, Nick. I had everything under control.”

I wiped a smear of blood from his cheek. Holding my red finger in front of his gaze, so he’d concentrate on me and stop staring at the door, I murmured, “Yeah, I see that.”

He glanced at the blood and sighed. “Damn it.” Tenderly, he touched his fingers to his face; when he pulled them away, they were red.

I momentarily considered sucking the swath of his blood from my finger—the vampire in me growled in delight at the idea—but I easily ignored the desire. Grabbing Julian’s elbow, I pulled him to the sink.

Looking at the cut near his eye in the mirror, Julian grimaced. “Great.” His face contorting around his fangs, he asked, “How am I gonna explain this to Mom and Dad?”

Turning on the water, I let the cool stream wash away the yummy goodness that a part of me yearned for. “Well, since I’m still waiting for an explanation, why don’t you try out your excuse on me?”

Sliding his fangs back in, Julian shook his head; his pitch-black hair instantly reminded me of our father. Julian was right, Dad wasn’t going to like hearing about him fighting. “It was nothing,” he murmured, his expression sheepish. “Just Russell being a dick because I was talking to Raquel.”

Sighing, I moistened a paper towel so Julian could clean himself up. “Didn’t feel like nothing, Julie. It felt like…” Remembering his fear and panic, I bit my lip and handed him the towel. That had been a lot more than Julian just reacting to Russell being a jerk. That had been…primal.

As Julian took the towel, his light eyes silently begged me to not finish my statement. Knowing his feelings when he didn’t want me to know them felt intrusive, so I decided to respect his reluctance as much as I could. “It just…felt like something,” I told him.

Julian hissed in a breath as he dabbed the towel against his cut. Unfortunately, since we were living vampires, Julian and I didn’t have the fast-healing ability that our undead family members had. Julian’s wounds would have to close the old-fashioned way. “I was just having a…moment,” he whispered, glancing at me in the mirror.

With sympathy in my heart, I nodded at his reflection. Julian’s panic attacks had subsided over the years, but they crept up now and again if he was put in the right circumstances. Dealing with Russell must have put him over the edge.

I said nothing more about it as Julian wiped away the bloody evidence from his face. I could feel the lingering bumps and bruises Julian felt, shared the ache stinging his cheek. Pain wasn’t necessarily an emotion, but our bodies processed it as such. Ever since birth, I had known when Julian was hurting, physically and emotionally. My long, lean limbs felt fine, but I was aware of his injuries, and was going to be aware of them for the next several days while he healed. Yeah, double-edged sword.

New Paranormal Romance ~ 3.5 Stars for Night’s Caress by Mary Hughes!

Title: Night’s Caress
Author: Mary Hughes
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Release Day: September 25th

Night’s Caress Synopsis:
When artist Brie Lark left her vampire ex and her straitjacket of a hometown to breathe free in New York City, she promised herself two things: she’d never go back to Meiers Corner, and no more vampires. The last thing she expected—or wanted—was to be sent back home on an assignment. But her boss at the FBI needs her undercover on a murder case, working with a black-haired, black-eyed giant god of a man who’s her idea of perfection, except for one thing—he’s a vampire.

FBI Special Agent Seb Rikare is an ancient vampire hardened by loss. He’s cut all emotions to protect himself and leads a deliberately steady, almost sterile life. The brash young woman forced to pose as his lover irritates him, with her jangling bracelets and colorful hair. But as much as she irritates him, he finds himself drawn to her lively spirit and he’s tempted to make fantasy a reality.

My Review

3.5 Stars!
A paranormal romance about the uncanny partnership between an ancient, alpha vampire and sassy female who is his reluctant partner.
Mary Hughes has written an immersive novel that makes you feel as though you are right in Meiers Corners yourself. Very well-developed scenery. Unfortunately, I did not feel the characters were given as much due. Seb is difficult to warm up to. Brie is better, but it still took me some time. Then there is the way the book was written – Seb’s part was written in 3rd person and Brie’s in first. It was too distracting for me. It also took a bit of time to really get into the book.
Once Hughes finished her story and character development and really let herself go wild with the story… that’s when I really got involved. Once I got there, I was involved and ready to see it through. There were a few tense moments that had me biting my nails while I waited to see what happened.
A little slow to start, but don’t give up. The rest of the book is totally worth it!

New Paranormal Romance ~ Prophesy by A. E. Via

PROPHESY

by A.E. Via
The King & Alpha, #1
Publication Date: September 23, 2017
Genres: Adult, M/M, Romance, Paranormal

NEW RELEASE!

SYNOPSIS:

An Enemies to Lovers
Shifter, Vampire True Mates story.

Justice Volkov is the youngest Alpha Zenith to ever lead the wolf shifters. Following in his father’s large paw prints was a responsibility he met head on. Now at age thirty-three, he is alpha of the alphas. As a direct descendant of the original Siberian pack, his wolf is bigger and stronger than Justice, himself is sometimes able to control.

“His wolf howled long and hard but Justice kept it inside. It felt like a bass drum beating against his rib cage. The harsh breaths, angry snarls and the determined pacing inside him was overtaking him. All the while… his mate kept calling.”

Justice takes his role of leadership and his legacy very seriously. He has little time for romance, not to mention a true mate. His packs are his priority. With a human government trying to regulate them, an uprising of rogue shifters, and a violent team of scientists trying to experiment on them, Justice has his hands way too full.

Chadwick ‘Wick’ Bentley is not enthusiastic when the captain of his escort tells him he has to leave his comfortable London home and go back to the States. As the Vampire King, he has no choice but to get his species back in line before they cause anymore chaos. At over two-hundred years old, Wick is no one to trifle with, but his smooth, charismatic manner makes him quite unique, despite the negative reputation vampires have. Wick has had nothing but time up to this point. He doesn’t feel the need to make issues pressing. Nothing is urgent in his life. Until he meets Justice. His beloved.

“Natural enemies can’t be mates.” Or so Justice thought. He knows his skepticism and rejection is hurting his mate, so while he fights their connection, Wick gets help from a source very close to Justice to help him win his beloved’s heart. Wick is a force all on his own, but when he’s blessed with a special gift from the Mother herself, not even Justice’s powerful wolf can prevent the prophesy from being fulfilled.

This story DOES NOT contain/mention MPREG.
No multiple pairings. It does not end on a cliffhanger and has an HEA.

Warning: This book is MM paranormal: If you DO NOT like hot, alpha men shifting into large wolves, or vampires feeding from their mates, this may not be your read.

SNEAK PEAK – EXCERPT

His animal growled and snarled inside him. Justice grunted and cursed while he fought to keep his wolf under control. What was wrong with him? What the hell was coming? He could feel it as sure as he could feel his beating heart, his racing pulse and his mighty wolf trying to get out and explore. He’d never had to reign in his animal so fiercely. Justice was finally able to open his eyes, not realizing they were squeezed shut in concentration.

“Justice! You’re forcing a lot of power, man.” Mac’s strong voice cut over the incessant presence trying to reach his mind.

Justice growled again. Something’s in my head. “Clear the room.” Justice’s voice was strained, spitting his words through clenched teeth. His wolf was clawing at him, ripping him apart, wanting out.

“Justice you’re scaring me. I can feel you fighting.”

He could hear his baby sister begging but he couldn’t focus on his siblings when he was barely keeping himself together. It had to be the Vampire King doing something to him. If Justice shifted and went crazy right here in a police headquarters, only the heavens knew what would happen to his people. “Get my family out of here.” Justice grabbed Alek’s arm in an authoritative grip. “Everyone. Out. Now.”

“We’re your betas. We won’t leave you, Justice,” Taleb snarled, looking in the same direction as Justice.

“Alek!” Justice thundered. He needed him to act for him.

“You heard your Alpha, Taleb. Warren, get them in the RV and back on the Humboldt pack lands now! Protect them with your lives,” Alek barked to the enforcers, who immediately began to shuffle Justice’s sister and his younger brothers out of the room and to the safety of their vehicle. Alek watched them down the hall until they turned out of view. His brother looked up and down the corridor before dipping back inside the room and locking the door.

“I think the Vampire King just turned the corner. Is it him doing this to you? I’ll kill him right now,” Alek growled.

“No!” Justice’s voice was sharper and stronger than he intended. He was still leaning hard against the wall farthest from the door for support, holding both clenched fists against his chest as if that alone could keep his wolf from bursting free. Justice closed his eyes and tried to center himself. He needed to breathe, relax. But with each second, the feelings intensified, an all-encompassing entity in his head.

“I can feel you too.”

“Oh shit. Was that you, Alek?” Justice grabbed his brother’s arm and yanked him to face him. “Did you just speak to me?”

“What? No? I am speaking to you now. Justice, goddamnit! You’re pushing too much energy.” Alek released a pained grunt. His brother looked like he wanted to break the window behind them and just get them the hell out of there. He’d never seen Justice behave this way, so out of control, and wasn’t sure what he was about to be faced with, but knew he may have to fight it alone because Justice was in a complete state of disorder.

It was an accented, smooth voice. “Something. Someone just said—” Then he smelled it. That faint, delicious scent that appeared last night was back, only it wasn’t diluted by nature’s elements. This time it was full strength, concentrated, and like nothing he’d ever smelled before. Impressive and so damn compelling. Justice’s thick cock pushed against his loose jeans and his wolf howled inside him, fighting to break free. His animal was so strong. Justice gritted his teeth together and hung on. Oh, Mother… please. Can’t… it just can’t. Justice heard footsteps right outside the door and his body began to shake from effort.

“Justice,” Alek warned. “You gotta tell me what’s going on, brother, so I can help you.”

How the hell was he supposed to explain this?

Justice saw the knob jiggle for a second before it was completely ripped from the door. Neither he nor Alek flinched at the show of strength. They had strength of their own. Justice thought dozens of vampires would storm the room, but only two walked in and Justice knew exactly which one was in his head. The Vampire King. The sexy, beautiful one. But how?

A.E.’s writing embodies everything from hopelessly romantic to adventure, to scandalous. Stories that often include intriguing edges and twists that take readers to new, thought-provoking depths.

Now that she’s gotten over her 10 books published hump, she’s kind of known now for her hardcore, play rough and love hard, bad boy, alphas. However, she does like to push herself to step out of her comfort zone, exploring with different tropes, but she won’t push herself into a whole other genre. She’s head over heels for MM romance and has tons of more hot stories to tell.
