DEVIL’S NIGHT is returning! Hiding places, chases, and all the games are back…

Buried in the shadows of the city, there’s a hotel called The Pope. Ailing, empty, and dark—it sits abandoned and surrounded by a forgotten mystery.

But you think it’s true, don’t you, Kai Mori? The story about the hidden twelfth floor. The mystery of the dark guest who never checked in and never checks out. You think I can help you find that secret hideaway and get to him, don’t you?

You and your friends can try to scare me. You can try to push me. Because even though I struggle to hide everything I feel when you look at me—and have ever since I was a girl—I think that maybe what you seek is so much closer than you’ll ever realize.

I will never betray him.

So sit tight.

On Devil’s Night, the hunt will be coming to you.

You have no idea what I seek, Little One. You don’t know what I had to become to survive three years in prison for a crime I would gladly commit again.

No one can know what I’ve turned into.

I want that hotel, I want to find him, and I want this over.

I want my life back.

But the more I’m around you, the more I realize this new me is exactly who I was meant to be.

So come on, kid. Don’t chicken out. My house is on the hill. So many ways in, and good luck finding your way out.

I’ve seen your hideaway. Time to see mine.

My Review

4.5 Stars!

Hide and seek! So happy I found you, Kai!

The mysterious and dark Kai finally gets his story and it is amazing!

The Four Horsemen are back and their twisted game had just been upped a notch. Kai’s backstory is explored through flashbacks. We get insight into how he met Banks and what happened six years ago. Then we are treated to a battle of wills between the two dominant personalities who each want to control the other. It is an explosion of feels and strength, angst and so much sexual tension. We are taken further into the Four Horsemen and their story, their beginning really. We find that while they work together, they all have their own agendas and everyone is looking for Damon.

Grab this book, find a quiet spot and get lost in this suspenseful, angsty, dark and delicious story from the brilliant Penelope Douglas!

*Hideaway is a romantic suspense suitable for ages 18+. While the romance is a stand-alone, the plot is a continuation of events that began in CORRUPT (Devil’s Night, #1). It is strongly recommended that you have read Corrupt prior to reading this. It is currently on sale for $0.99.

Title: Punk 57

Genre: New Adult

Author: Penelope Douglas

Release Date: October 21, 2016

From New York Times Bestselling Author, Penelope Douglas, comes the latest New Adult romance of love, hate, and everything in between…

“We were perfect together. Until we met.”

I can’t help but smile at the lyrics in her letter. She misses me.

In fifth grade, my teacher set us up with pen pals from a different school. Thinking I was a girl, with a name like Misha, the other teacher paired me up with her student, Ryen. My teacher, believing Ryen was a boy like me, agreed.

It didn’t take long for us to figure out the mistake. And in no time at all, we were arguing about everything. The best take-out pizza. Android vs. iPhone. Whether or not Eminem is the greatest rapper ever…

And that was the start. For the next seven years, it was us.

Her letters are always on black paper with silver writing. Sometimes there’s one a week or three in a day, but I need them. She’s the only one who keeps me on track, talks me down, and accepts everything I am.

We only had three rules. No social media, no phone numbers, no pictures. We had a good thing going. Why ruin it?

Until I run across a photo of a girl online. Name’s Ryen, loves Gallo’s pizza, and worships her iPhone. What are the chances?

F*ck it. I need to meet her.

I just don’t expect to hate what I find.

He hasn’t written in three months. Something’s wrong. Did he die? Get arrested? Knowing Misha, neither would be a stretch.

Without him around, I’m going crazy. I need to know someone is listening. It’s my own fault. I should’ve gotten his phone number or picture or something.

He could be gone forever.

Or right under my nose, and I wouldn’t even know it.

*Punk 57 is a stand alone New Adult romance. It is suitable for ages 18+.

New Release Review: Misconduct by Penelope Douglas

Title:  Misconduct

Publisher:  Penguin Group

Publication Date: 12/1/2015

Format: eBook, Paperback

Genre:  adult contemporary romance

Pages:  401 pages

Rating:  5/5 stars!!!!

Synopsis:  From the New York Times bestselling author of the Fall Away series who never fails to deliver a “powerfully written contemporary love story…”*

Former tennis player Easton Bradbury is trying to be the best teacher she can be, trying to reach her bored students, trying to forget her past. What brought her to this stage in her life isn’t important. She can’t let it be. But now one parent-teacher meeting may be her undoing…

Meeting Tyler Marek for the first time makes it easy for Easton to see why his son is having trouble in school. The man knows how to manage businesses and wealth, not a living, breathing teenage boy. Or a young teacher, for that matter, though he tries to. And yet…there is something about him that draws Easton in—a hint of vulnerability, a flash of attraction, a spark that might burn.

Wanting him is taboo. Needing him is undeniable. And his long-awaited touch will weaken Easton’s resolve—and reveal what should stay hidden…

Review:    Penelope Douglas is one my favorite authors.  Top five, for sure.  Every time I read one of her books, I declare it my favorite.  However, Misconduct is by far my favorite of her books.

Misconduct is at its core an adult contemporary romance with all the pieces needed to make a great romance – engaging protagonist, swoon-worthy hero, conflict and, of course, hot sex and a happily-ever-after.  I’ve read a hundred of those in the past six months, some I liked better than others.  However, Misconduct stands out from those other hundred or so books because it is truly a smart book.  This book isn’t just a romance, it’s a platform that speaks on some pretty important topics.

Penelope Douglas is not afraid to push the limits of her readers’ imaginations.  Most of her books have alpha males that handle their women with a bit roughly, which is fine because these are books and that’s what makes fiction writing so great.  However, if you are a cynical, overly-critical person such as myself and find it hard to not pick at everything that you would consider an inconsistency in real life, then Douglas’s books can be hard to swallow.  It does not, however, make them any less entertaining or well written.  But, something about Misconduct just clicked for me.

The main characters, Easton and Tyler, are smart and believable and realistic.  Tyler is an alpha male all the way, but he’s self-critical and apologetic and real.  Easton is young and beautiful and driven, but she too has a conscience and she is flawed in a realistic way.  The back and forth between the two of them was honest and, at times, hysterically funny.

The book description describes a taboo romance.  Truthfully, I think taboo is the wrong word.  Ethically-challenged is probably more appropriate, but ethically-challenged probably doesn’t sell books as well as taboo.  If you aren’t into taboo romances, don’t let that word turn you away from this book.  Taboo isn’t really taboo.  (I can’t explain without giving anything away and I don’t spoil.  So, just take my word for it.  J )

In a nutshell, Misconduct is a smart, well-written, sexy romantic read about two fabulous characters and their ethically-challenged romance.  Now go buy it…

Extras:  There is a playlist of songs mentioned in the book so you can go out and purchase them, or there is a Spotify playlist with the songs.  Just search Penelope Douglas on Spotify.  There is a Pintrest board for this book.  I read it the first time without the extras.  The second time I read through it I streamed the playlist and followed the Pintrest board.  That was a nice immersive way to enjoy the book.  Finally, at the end of the book, there are a few discussion questions that are insightful and thought-provoking, making this the perfect book for a book club.

New Release Book Review: Corrupt by Penelope Douglas

Title:  Corrupt

Series: standalone

Author: Penelope Douglas

Publication Date: 11/15/2015

Genre:  Dark Romance

Rating:  5/5 stars

Where to buy:

Synopsis:   From New York Times bestselling author Penelope Douglas comes a new dark romance…

I was told that dreams were our heart’s desires. My nightmares, however, became my obsession.

His name is Michael Crist.

My boyfriend’s older brother is like that scary movie that you peek through your hand to watch. He’s handsome, strong, and completely terrifying. The star of his college’s basketball team and now gone pro, he’s more concerned with the dirt on his shoe than me.

But I noticed him.

I saw him. I heard him. The things that he did, and the deeds that he hid…For years, I bit my nails, unable to look away.

Now, I’ve graduated high school and moved on to college, but I haven’t stopped watching Michael. He’s bad, and the dirt I’ve seen isn’t content to stay in my head anymore.

Because he’s finally noticed me.

Her name is Erika Fane, but everyone calls her Rika.

My brother’s girlfriend grew up hanging around my house and is always at our dinner table. She looks down when I enter a room and stills when I am close. I can always feel the fear rolling off of her, and while I haven’t had her body, I know that I have her mind. That’s all I really want anyway.

Until my brother leaves for the military, and I find Rika alone at college.

In my city.

The opportunity is too good to be true, as well as the timing. Because you see, three years ago she put a few of my high school friends in prison, and now they’re out.

We’ve waited. We’ve been patient. And now every last one of her nightmares will come true.

*Corrupt is a STANDALONE dark romance with no cliffhanger. It is suitable for ages 18+.

Review:  Penelope Douglas does dark romance like no other.  The author of the Fall Away series (Bully, Rival, Until You, Falling Away, and Aflame – if you haven’t read them, go do it…NOW…I’m serious!  Get your hands on those books…well, after you read this one.)

Corrupt is a dark romance…seriously, dark.  But oh, so good!!  Rika has secretly loved Michael for years, but was pushed together with his brother instead.  Michael shows no interest in Rika, until one night he takes her along with him and his friends for a night of mischief.  Michael and his friends are the town’s golden boys, practically untouchable.  Rika jumps at the chance, but things go badly.  Things happen (I can’t tell you what because I don’t want to spoil the mystery).  Three years pass and the boys return for revenge…on Rika.  What develops is a mysterious story of love, hate, misplaced blame and revenge…lots and lots of revenge.  Oh, and there is a deep, dark, forbidden romance, because it wouldn’t be a Penelope Douglas novel without a bit of dark romance and angry sex.

Warning…this is not a sweet, romantic book.  There are dark themes, borderline behavior and some steamy sex scenes.  I would not recommend this book for anyone under 18.

Review: Aflame by Penelope Douglas

I am shedding some tears over the ending of the Fall Away series.  I often mourn the ending of a books series, and this being one of my all time favorite series. I think it hit a little harder than most. However, I am not sure I could have asked for a better ending. The series has been wrapped up in the most satisfying way.  Thought the series I became quite invested in the entire cast of characters, which I feel is a great testament Douglas’s writing.

Jared and Tate were my favorite of all the characters and getting three books with them as the focus was amazing.  Aflame continues their story and does t disappoint. I don’t want to give too many details for those who haven’t read the series (again, I urge you to read all the book).  Jared and Trent have been friends, enemies, lovers and partners.  They have suffered at each other’s hands and others, but through it all they have loved each other above all else. Their up and down relationship continues in Aflame. I laughed, I cried, I got angry and I was relieved. My emotions were all over the place. The book wrapped up Jared and Tate’s journey in a most satisfying way. The bonus…I love bonuses…is we also get the stories of Fallon, Madoc, Juliet and Jax wrapped up, as well.

My rating: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟/5 plus a cup of love and sunshine. (Lol)
