But now, battle lines are being drawn. Kylie versus Bridget, and everyone else falling over themselves to choose a side.

Kylie’s convinced Bridget wants to win, no matter what Bridget tells her to the contrary. And Kylie is determined that the top spot will go to her, and to her alone.

EXCERPT:

I have zero interest in marrying Trevor, so I haven’t given that detail attention, but it’s clearly been on the other girls’ minds. I’ve seen it in their indecision. Since nobody is really telling us what to do and what’s good or bad by their definition — what earns us points versus losing them — the ad-hoc harem has been playing it by ear. Trevor runs a sex empire and likes having girls on his dick, so it makes sense to have a lot of sex and climb onto his cock. But it’s all been done halfway — Jess and I have discussed it. The saying goes that a man wants a woman who’s a lady in the parlor and a whore in the bedroom. Since this mansion is like half parlors, pretty much everyone is defaulting to whore in most places, but there’s always the danger of going too far. Of being too loose, too willing. Somewhere deep down, if he’s looking for a wife instead of a mistress, Trevor must want that lady half as well.

When Jess gave me that explanation yesterday, I laughed at her. Who gives a shit what Trevor wants? Why would she change who she was? Because he’s hot and loaded, duh.

I know she’s joking. Mostly. But some of these girls are kidding less than others, and I think they’d strangle their own mothers to get their conniving hooks in Trevor’s back.

So when Jessica pulls me aside and tells me that I really need to start paying attention because everyone else seems to know I’ve been selected for a date with Trevor, I’m not all that surprised. The time was going to come when we’d need to play at affection, and that’s fine so long as he doesn’t expect me to do shit I don’t want to do.

I am surprised, however, when Jessica tells me that there’s only one date today. Not everyone will have this chance to ooh and aah over our host and generally grovel for his attention. It’s a group date, just like TV taught me to expect.

One billionaire.

Three girls.

And somehow, despite doing my best to be invisible, I’m one of them.

Kylie walks by me and accidentally spills hot coffee all over me.

I realize she is, too.

EXCERPT:

We stood there and looked around, an awkward silence playing between us. Then he stepped closer and took my hand in his, sending a bolt of staggering electricity zipping through my chest. “Her hand fits perfectly in mine.” He whispered this, as if confirming it with someone. His gaze locked on it, analyzing, then with a shake of his head, he spoke louder. “Sophia, I’m sorry. I …I lied to you.”

I looked at him—bewilderment crinkling my face—and tried to understand. “Lied?” My voice broke. “I don’t get it.”

“I wasn’t sick that day. Well, in a way I was, I guess. The truth is, I was gut-sick. That guy …he was sitting by you the whole day …and …and he never left your side. I’d check throughout the day, but he was still there. I couldn’t help it. I was insanely jealous.” He looked down, his tone deepening as he flexed his fingers that were still laced through mine.

“What?” His words astounded me. I swiped my brow with my free hand. “You were jealous …of me?”

He released my hand and paced back and forth, the nervousness seeping through as he wrung his hands. “I know it’s stupid, but I couldn’t help myself. I love the way you laugh and …I like you, Sophia …a lot, and it hurt me to see you with someone else.”

He lifted his hair off his forehead, pushing it up. His eyes locked on mine again, captivating me. I couldn’t look away. My self-consciousness took over—heckling me. The way I looked right now—with my hair a matted mess from the mist, and no makeup on—must look ridiculous. I drew away, making myself smaller.

I laughed my nervous laugh and kicked the sand with my shoe. “Who, him? You mean …Brian?” My words wobbled, but I giggled, unable to believe that Brian talking to me could make anyone jealous.

Title:  Russian Tattoos Obsession

Author:  Kat Shehata

Publisher:  Limitless Publishing, LLC

Publication Date:  January 12, 2016

Add to Goodreads

Genre:  Romance, Mystery & Crime

Pages:  300 pages

Rating:  4.5/5 stars!!!

Synopsis:  Falling in love isn’t a crime—but falling in love with a Russian mafia boss could be deadly.

Competitive tennis player Carter Cook wants a taste of freedom. Her overprotective father monitors every aspect of her life, so when he becomes employed by Vladimir Ivanov—a sexy Russian with an array of tattoos and an accent that weakens her knees—a bit of danger is within Carter’s grasp. Behind her father’s back, she enjoys spending time with Vladimir at his lavish estate. But is he really the upstanding businessman she believes him to be?

Vladimir Ivanov reigns as godfather of a Russian mafia crime ring.

Vladimir spent five years of his life in a Siberian prison camp and has earned every tattoo inked into his skin. He is a powerful man who gets what he wants, and after stalking the gorgeous tennis player for years—he wants Carter. A little charm melts her heart, and behind the scenes, he orders his henchman to track her every move.

He’s a tattooed stick of dynamite ready to blow at the slightest spark.

As their romance reaches deadly levels, Carter senses something’s not right. When she’s lured into a compromising position at the hands of a shady European drug dealer, she calls in Boris, Vladimir’s right hand man, to rescue her—without telling Vladimir. With his authority questioned, he sets out to teach Carter a lesson about loyalty she’ll never forget.

When Carter realizes she’s in too deep, she must fight for her freedom before the attraction turns fatal.

But the Russian mafia plays for keeps, and Vladimir’s fierce lust to possess her spirals their romance out of control.

I received this copy from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

Review:   This is one of those WOW books.  You know – Wow, did I just read that?  Wow, did she really just do that?  Wow, he said what?  I loved it.  It was dark and suspenseful.  The romance was dark, as well.  Vladimir is obsessed with Carter.  So much so that he orchestrates their meeting so he can get her right where he wants her.

Carter bothered me a little.  I realize she’s only nineteen, but she was rather naïve and then all of a sudden she is a game player and she’s doing her own manipulating.
Vladimir is the dark, brooding anti-hero.  He’s that gruff, alpha hero that growls a lot and doesn’t often elaborate.  He speaks through his actions.  I think he’s sort of crazy, but crazy sure looks good on him.

The story is told from Carter’s point of view, which works.  It adds to the mystery and suspense not being in the minds of the other characters.

If you’re in the mood for a dark, brooding hero, a strong heroine and an intense mystery, then this is one to put on your TBR.

Release Blitz: Revolution by Jessica Frances

Revolution
Jessica Frances
Publication date: January 26th 2016
Genres: Dystopia, New Adult

I was raised in a world where humans no longer rule.

In the past, we made a terrible mistake by creating a new species we thought would serve us as our army, which led to our downfall.

There was a war, we lost, and many lives were massacred. It was the end of life as we knew it and the beginning of a hell we were now trapped in. We became enslaved to what we now called Superiors, becoming pets to them, simply there to entertain.

In a world so miserable, I managed to do the unthinkable: I fell in love. But even that was doomed, because to love a Superior was forbidden.

What the rest of the Superiors didn’t know was how deeply a human could love or how resilient we became when we were hurt.

The Superiors never could have imagined an uprising, which was why they never saw it coming.

Humans deserved to be free, and I would stop at nothing to deliver that promise.

My name is Tilly, and I am still alive with one sole purpose: to begin a revolution.

~

I had been raised to believe humans were worthless. We owned them and controlled them, and when we were done with them, we threw them away. Therefore, I never thought I would ever feel more for Tilly than disinterest. I never expected to want to save her.

It was forbidden for a Superior to love a human. No one had ever crossed that line, but I did. I fell madly in love with her, so it was no surprise how we ended up.

I was raised to be a soldier, and that was what I was always going to be. However, I was not a soldier for the Superiors, not anymore.

I became a soldier for humans, and I would stop at nothing to help them. They deserved to be free, and I would die protecting them.

My name is Johnny, and I am here with one sole purpose: to finish a revolution.

Goodreads / Amazon / Barnes & Noble

EXCERPT:

“How can you do that to these humans? This is beyond cruel!” I demand of her, not as afraid of her as I am of Jax.

She saunters over to me, her expression one of someone feeling carefree. “Many reasons, one being I make a lot of money doing this. Another is it is great entertainment.” She shrugs. “You humans are beneath us. I think it is disgusting that you are allowed into Superiors’ homes. You deserve to be in cages and in gutters. You are genetic mistakes that I would love to completely wipe out.”

“You wouldn’t even exist without us!” I yell, angry at her words.

“You humans stupidly created a species superior to you in every way, and then you tried to exterminate us when you realized you were no longer at the top of the food chain. You failed, and now you are forever destined be our slaves, our pets, our playthings. You are weak, disgusting, disease-ridden beings who deserve every ounce of pain I give you.”

Without warning, she shoves one of the sticks at me, zapping me with an electric shock powerful enough to send pain coursing through my entire body, forcing me against the back of the cage.

I scream, shocked and scared at how painful the experience is.

She doesn’t stop, and I swear my heart gives out. But then she pulls back, her laughter slowly filtering through my ears as I begin to calm down.

“Pathetic,” she mutters to me, turning around and moving past the cages, randomly choosing humans to zap.

New Release Review & Author Interview: Spanish Lesson by Jessica Peterson

spanishlessons

Welcome a new voice in the New Adult genre:  Jessica Peterson

About the Author:

jpeterson  Jessica Peterson began reading romance to escape the decidedly unromantic awkwardness of her teenage years. Having found solace in the likes of Mr. Darcy, Jamie Fraser (OMG love the gingers!), and Edward Cullen, it wasn’t long before she began creating tall, dark and handsome heroes of her own. She lives in Charlotte, North Carolina with her husband, Mr. Peterson, and her smelly Goldendoodle Martha Bean.

Website // Twitter

Author Interview:

Welcome to Jessica Peterson!

Jessica was kind enough to answer a few questions about herself and her writing.

Tell us a little about yourself, Jessica

Hi there!  My name is Jessica Peterson, and I love travel, red-headed heroes (Prince Harry/Sam Heughen/Jamie Frasier, I’m looking at you), and coffee.  I’m a little addicted to caffeine these days.  Launching your first indie series is such a thrill—and a lot of work!  I live in North Carolina with my smelly Goldendoodle puppy, Martha Bean, and my husband, Mr. Peterson.  I was pretty awkward—and very introverted—growing up, so I read a lot.  A lot.  I think I was about fifteen when I got bitten by the romance bug.  I haven’t looked back since!

You are an established author in the Historical Romance genre, but new to New Adult Romance. Can you tell us a little about what motivated you to try something different?

I got my start in romance writing historicals—think a sassy take on Jane Austen—but it wasn’t long before I was swept up in all things New Adult.  I devoured Kristin Callihan, Jennifer Armentrout, and of course E.L. James.  I love how intense New Adult can be; how it can suck you in from page one and give you all the feels.  I’ve always wanted to write a book based on my own study abroad experience in Madrid (more than ten years ago!), and I figured such a story would fit nicely into the New Adult genre.

Spanish Lessons is about an American college student studying abroad and finding romance, of course. Did you ever study abroad?

Yes!  And it was one of the most magical experiences of my life.  I studied abroad for a semester in Madrid when I was a junior in college.  So much of SPANISH LESSONS is based on my trials and tribulations there.  The first chapter is pretty much my experience verbatim after landing in Madrid that first time.  I don’t know if I’ve ever been more nervous or felt more lost.  But it ended up being a fantastic experience.  I would recommend studying abroad to anyone!  It will change your life in ways you can’t imagine.

Do you have any quirky writing habits?

When I dreamed of being a writer, I used to think it was this super romantic profession.  You know, scribbling in a dogeared Moleskin on the side of the Seine in Paris on a gorgeous spring day, a la Ernest Hemingway in A MOVEABLE FEAST.  Unfortunately, the reality of writing is much more…mundane.  I’m someone who thrives on routine, so Monday through Friday you’ll find me at my computer (usually by 7AM), typing away.

My favorite scenes to write are kissing and/or sex scenes.  I know some authors hate them, but I freaking LOVE them.  When I was writing the steamy bits for SPANISH LESSONS, I listened to Justin Bieber and The Weeknd on repeat.  Needed some moody to tunes to get in that headspace, so to speak!

Is there any particular author or book that inspired you?

Oh my goodness, where to even begin?  I read a little bit of everything, but for the STUDY ABROAD series specifically, I’d have to say ANNA AND THE FRENCH KISS was a big inspiration, along with Cora Carmack’s LOSING IT.  I also found myself thinking a lot about Tessa Dare, and how her sex scenes are about so much more than the actual sex.  I also revisited Hemingway’s novels that are set in Spain, and I read a decent bit of poetry, too—mostly Pablo Neruda.

Thanks for having me, and happy reading!

Thank you, Jessica for dropping by!

Excerpt from SPANISH LESSONS, copyright 2016 by Jessica Peterson

I don’t have time to think or catch my breath. Rafa keeps kissing me, and the kiss keeps getting better. Deeper. My head spins as I try to keep up with him. He’s slow and fast and insistent and soft, all at once. I lose myself in him, my mind a blessed blank. He’s just as good a kisser as I thought he’d be.

Better, even. There is something incredibly sexy about the way he moves. He’s confident without being overbearing. Yes, the kiss is his, but that means I’m his focus. He lavishes me with attention and care, his tongue working to open me to him, and I open, willingly, wildly.

This is how everyone dreams of being kissed. With abandon. With feeling. I grasp his forearms, my fingers digging into his bare skin as I hold on for dear life.

There is nothing safe about Rafa. Not the way he looks at me or the way he dances or how I feel when he touches me. Definitely nothing safe about the way he kisses me.

But I feel safe with him anyway. Safe to be myself. Safe to kiss him back without worrying about what happens next.

I feel safe because we’ll probably never see—much less kiss—each other again. He’s way out of my league. And I don’t want to fall for a guy I’ll just have to leave in a few months. I don’t want to get hurt again. I can’t bear it.

This is just a kiss, I tell myself.

It’s just one kiss that he won’t remember, that I will try to forget.

Still. There’s this rush between my skin and bones that whispers to me, telling me this is no ordinary kiss.

That nothing will be the same after this kiss.

My Review:

Spanish Lessons was a sweetly, romantic story of an American student, Vivian, who is studying abroad with her best friend.  On the night she arrives in Spain, she meets Rafa, a sex Spaniard and there is an instant attraction between them.  The exchange numbers, but Viv is disappointed when he doesn’t contact her.  As she starts classes, she needs a tutor.  Her director sets her up with a tutor who turns out to be…Rafa.  Sparks fly, but Viv has reservations and there are, of course, complications standing in the way of their happiness.

Jessica Peterson is a new voice in the New Adult genre, but has a solid background writing historical romances.  I was impressed with the writing.  Her words flowed easily, the characters were likable (or lovable in Rafa’s case) but believable, with real flaws and real worries.  There is the perfect amount of steamy romance.

A swoonworthy hero, a lovable heroine and a quirky cast of characters make this a must buy read.

Over the course of one thrilling summer, Arabella and Charlie chip away at her bucket list and fight the simmering attraction between them…knowing that once it’s all over, so is their time together.

EXCERPT:

Ducking into the darkened hallway, he quickly sized up the options. With the sound of quickened footsteps behind him, he wrapped his hand around the handle and darted behind the heavy door.

What happened next he couldn’t have predicted.

And again, he was somewhat of a reluctant expert on crazy women.

Not five seconds after the marked door closed, it pushed open again. Charlie’s gaze collided with the brunette’s in the mirror. She blinked a few times, adjusting her eyes to the bright lights, and her lips pursed in confusion as she spied the row of porcelain sinks under the mirrors. She looked beyond his shoulder to the line of urinals attached to the wall, and her mouth dropped open in a sound he assumed only dogs could hear. And then…

“Oh. My. God!”

A voice like honey, smooth and thick and echoing off the tile floor, curled around him as any sense of bravado faded, and the woman slapped a hand over her eyes. Blindly, she spun around to leave…and accidentally rammed headfirst into the solid oak doorframe. They both winced.

Red flags wilting, alarm bells silencing, intuition told Charlie that the woman wasn’t as dangerous as he’d once thought. With the determined slope of her shoulders now slumped, she seemed mostly mortified, so he tried to do the gentlemanly thing.

Strolling forward, he went to help her with the door. “Here, let me.”

Only, she turned at the same time, following the sound of his voice, and her forehead crashed into his chin.

Shit.

“Holy mother of crud nuggets!”

A surprised laugh broke past the stinger. “What did you just say?”

Slowly, the brunette opened her fingers and peeked at him through the slats. Her wide brown eyes were wet and filled with too many emotions to name, but one was for sure embarrassment. Behind them, the men’s bathroom door opened again, and a balding gentleman lumbered through. He stopped short after two steps, taking in first the woman, then Charlie, and then her again, before glancing at the sign posted on the door. With a dismissive shrug, he continued on, strolling straight into the corner stall.

The beauty’s fingers slammed closed again.

“Only me,” she whimpered. “This would only happen to me.”

My Revew:  5/5 stars!!!

I LOVED this book.  Arabella and Charlie are real, engaging characters with flaws vulnerabilities that make you fall in love with both of them.  Arabella has been in love with Charlie since she was a kid, but he never noticed her.  Now that she is all grown up, she puts is on her summer bucket list.  They share a kiss and she takes off.  He can’t get the girl out of his head.  Suddenly, their lives become intertwined in more ways than one.

You’re Still the One is fun, flirty and entertaining with a sweet, sexy romance that leaves you with a satisfying ending after a sweet, slow burning build up.

Synopsis:

One kiss can change your life…

Allison Hall is fed up with being a social outcast. Even at the tech company where she works for her brother and his best friend, Jared, she’s the invisible nerdy girl. What she needs is confidence—and that requires a makeover and dating tips. And she knows just the man to help…

Jared Esterly is shocked when Allison asks for his assistance and turns her down, knowing that her brother—his business partner and best friend, Nick—would kill him if he dated her, even if it is just for practice. But when Al’s attempt to make changes on her own fails spectacularly, Jared reluctantly steps in. Things heat up quickly, and soon lessons move from the salon to the bedroom.

When overprotective big-brother Nick discovers Jared is dating Allison, their friendship and business partnership sour. Allison, consumed by guilt, must make a choice: stay with Jared, even though that means ruining his friendship with Nick and possibly his career, or leave the one man who sets her on fire.

I received this copy from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Review:

The Lowdown:  Allison is tired of being the geeky girl who eats lunch alone, never gets noticed and never gets invited out for drinks after work.  She is ready to change and needs help.  So she goes to her brother’s best friend, Jared, who she has had a long term crush on.  He is hesitant to help, but realizes how important this is to her, he decides to help.  During the transformation process, they begin to realize their feelings for each other.

My opinion:  I like A Friendly Flirtation.  It was funny and sweet and I love a good Ugly Duckling story.  I found myself frustrated with Allison sometimes and I thought Jared was a little cliché.  However, as a whole, the story kept me entertained right through to the HEA.
