Blog Tour: 5 Stars for Lucian Divine by Renee Carlino!

luciandivine_03-1-1-1“My guardian angel is a drunk.”

Evelyn Casey’s life is at a standstill. She’s in her mid-twenties, struggling with the dating scene in San Francisco. Nothing seems to be working out, and she’s starting to think that she’ll live out her days in her crummy apartment with her overbearing roommate, Brooklyn. It’s absurd, but sometimes Evey longs for a guardian angel to show up and save the day.

And then he does. Seriously. His name is Lucian and he’s a guardian angel, been on the job for two thousand years. His sudden presence in her life is both good—he’s brilliant, witty, and warm—and bad—he’s brilliant, witty, warm, and hot as —-. But as perfect as Lucian seems, he’s got problems of his own. He’s taken up drinking and he’s brazenly inserted himself into Evey’s life, going against the greatest cosmic law ever created.

For Evey, the rules are simple: You are not allowed to hook up with your guardian angel. But sometimes fulfilling your destiny requires a leap of faith, a confrontation with God.

Yes, God as in God.

My Review:

5 Stars!

Holy swoon!  This book!!!  Great characters, unique story and a sexy, angel hero!  That’s what you get in Lucian Divine.

Lucian is Evey’s guardian angel.  He only has one charge, Evey, because he hasn’t exactly been on his best behavior over the past 2000 years.  A guardian angel on probation and with a drinking problem to boot.  Lucian is a great character.  He is complex and honest, brutally honest at times, and he cares deeply.  He is snarky at times and then he says these things to Evey and you’re just swooning so hard.

Evey is kind of a mess herself.  She barrels through life, doesn’t really think about her safety, but she is kind and fun.  At first when she sees Lucian, she thinks it is all a joke, but then she quickly becomes a believer.

So, the big underlying theme throughout the book is religion.  Carlino wrote a really great Author Note in explanation.  The book pushes the boundaries of several different religious beliefs, but not in a disrespectful way.  Ultimately, though, this book is a love story between Evey and her guardian angel, who isn’t supposed to be capable of loving a human.  The book pushes boundaries and makes you believe in the impossible.

A beautiful story of love and doing whatever it takes to be with the one you love, no matter the price.  This is a must read!
