Shacking Up by Helena Hunting is live!
Ruby Scott is months behind on rent and can’t seem to land a steady job. She has one chance to turn things around with a big audition. But instead of getting her big break, she gets sick as a dog and completely bombs it in the most humiliating fashion. All thanks to a mysterious, gorgeous guy who kissed and then coughed on her at a party the night before.
Luckily, her best friend might have found the perfect opportunity; a job staying at the lavish penthouse apartment of hotel magnate Bancroft Mills while he’s out of town, taking care of his exotic pets. But when the newly-evicted Ruby arrives to meet her new employer, it turns out Bane is the same guy who got her sick.
Seeing his role in Ruby’s dilemma, Bane offers her a permanent job as his live-in pet sitter until she can get back on her feet. Filled with hilariously awkward encounters and enough sexual tension to heat a New York City block, Shacking Up, from NYT and USA Today bestselling author Helena Hunting, is sure to keep you laughing and swooning all night long.
What do you get when you put a sassy, out of work, down on her luck actress together with a sexy, rich, ex-rugby player and add in a ferret and a tarantula? You get the fun, sexy Shacking Up!
In her fun, sassy writing style, Helena Hunting has given us a fun story that is as sexy as it is funny! Sizzling undercurrents of lust and longing mingle to create a nice, slow burn that builds to an explosive climax when these two finally give in. Ruby is a great character. She gives as good as she gets with a mix of snark and smarts. She often uses that snark to cover up her insecurities and she has a few, particularly some daddy issues. She also has an issue with socks. Bancroft, despite his overly stuffy name, is anything but. He grew up wealthy, but instead of following his father and brothers into the family business, he went his own way and played professional rugby until a knee injury ended his career. Now, he is working for this father and not exactly thrilled about it. He is down to Earth and passionate, especially about Ruby. He also has a pet ferret and a tarantula. Can’t get much better than that.
I loved the plot. It was familiar yet different. It meandered along at a nice pace without forcing the relationship on us. When Ruby and Bancroft finally “get on the same page” things heat up quickly. Of course, no good story is without complications. A series of misunderstandings and an inability to communicate lend to said complications.
Never fear, these two work things out and get their HEA.
My only real complaint… I wanted the words! I love the words and they weren’t officially said, only implied and said in other ways. (Disclaimer: this is my opinion and only my opinion)
Grab Shaking Up! It is fun, sexy and Bancroft is near perfect!
