Sydney Walker’s new job is perfect. As the live-in nanny to the most famous quarterback in the NFL and his beautiful wife, she couldn’t have it any better. Their kids are adorable. Her bosses are more than generous. Plus, there are hot football players at the house all the time. Life can’t get much better than this.

Until her life turns into an absolute nightmare. The media is abuzz with rumors that she and her boss Drew Callahan are having a torrid affair. Everyone knows the truth—except the public. So Drew’s wife Fable comes up with the perfect idea.

She creates a fake relationship between Sydney and one of the rookie players on Drew’s team. Wade Knox is forever indebted to Drew and Fable and readily agrees to the set up. Pretending to be in a romantic relationship with the hot nanny for a week—how hard can it be?

Crazy how it only takes one week for two people to fall head over heels in love…

My Review:

4.5 Stars!!!

Gah!  This is the perfect mashup of two of Monica’s best-selling series, The Rules Series & her One Week Girlfriend series.  This book is near perfection!

Sydney Walker (Gabe Walker’s little sister) has a just scored her first job.  And she desperately needed it after her father cut her off completely.  Sydney is the brand new nanny/helper for Drew and Fable Callahan.  Yes, that Drew and Fable!  Things are great until the media suspects Drew of having an affair with the 19 year old nanny.  Suddenly, she is being badgered by the press and life is all kinds of crazy.  Enter Wade (well, he was there from the beginning, but that segue was perfect.  You’ll see).  Wade Knox just so happens to be Owen McGuire’s, Fable’s little brother, best friend and an honorary member of the Callahan clan.  He was just drafted to play for the 49ers, which is also Drew’s team.  So, Drew has taken him under his wing, so to speak.  When the story of the not-so-real relationship between Drew and Sydney comes out, the Callahans ask Wade to pose as Sydney’s fake boyfriend.  He agrees, not only because he owes Drew and Fable a lot, but also because Sydney is beautiful.

No one will top Drew and Fable for me as far as Murphy’s characters go, but Wade and Sydney are pretty great.  They have great chemistry, he is really sweet to her and while things moved along pretty quickly after they started the fake relationship, it didn’t diminished the feels that this book offers.

I was super excited for this book and I can honestly say, I was not disappointed in the least!

Safe Bet is a perfect mash up of two series full of beloved characters and the opportunity to get to know these two new characters.  Sweet, sexy and emotional, Safe Bet is well…a safe bet!

Synopsis:

Box set of the first three books in The Rules series – FAIR GAME, IN THE DARK, and SLOW PLAY!

FAIR GAME:

When your boyfriend bets YOU in a poker game, you better know when to run…

Bad enough Jade Frost’s boyfriend drags her to a boring poker game. Even worse that he actually threw her into the betting pot during an intense round…and lost. Talk about the perfect excuse for Jade to make him her ex-boyfriend.

Now she supposedly belongs to the ultra rich, extremely gorgeous Shep Prescott. He could have anything he wants yet he seems to be in hot pursuit of her. No matter how rude, how snarky, how impossible she acts, it doesn’t stop him. More like her horrible behavior seems to make him want her more.

When she finds herself starting to fall for him, Jade’s confused. There’s more to Shep than the carefree rich charmer he portrays. No way could he want a serious relationship with her…or could he?

IN THE DARK:

The girl next door isn’t what she seems…

Stuck spending the summer with his screwed up family, Gabriel Walker is bored out of his mind and looking for an adventure. And he seems to find it with the hot girl who lives next door. The attraction between them is instant. Electric. Soon they’re spending every stolen minute together. Talk about the perfect summer fling…

Lucy is living a lie. She doesn’t live next door—she’s the girl who’s been hired to house sit for the summer. If Gabe wants to believe she’s a spoiled rich girl looking for some fun, she can go along with that. After the summer, she’ll never see him again.

They don’t count on running into each other at college. Now Lucy must keep up the pretense of being a rich girl—and it’s exhausting. She knows she’s falling in love with Gabe and she’s scared he feels the same. Will he still care about her when he discovers the truth?

SLOW PLAY:

He’s the player of all players…

Newly broke girl Alexandria Asher just wants to live a normal life. After her parents are sent to prison on embezzlement charges, she enrolls in college under her mother’s maiden name and tries her best to pretend she’s someone else.

Tristan Prescott is everything Alex is trying to avoid. A seemingly egotistical, lazy, rich jerk, she dumps her beer on his head when he comes on to her one night at a party. This only spurs Tristan into action. He loves nothing more than a challenge. And the beautiful Alex is exactly the type of challenge that intrigues him.

Despite her reluctance, Alex finds herself quickly involved with Tristan. Underneath that playboy exterior is a good guy, a sweet and sexy guy who she is undoubtedly falling for. What they both don’t realize is the actions of Alex’s parents are the reason for so much tragedy in Tristan’s family. And when Tristan discovers who Alex and her family really is, can he forgive and forget?

Review:   I loved Fair Game, the first book in The Rules series.  Monica Murphy does it again with the second book, In the Dark.

The series is about three wealthy college guys who are out to have the time of their lives before they face the real world.  They are living life and having fun until they start finding love.  The series if fun and sweet and each book focuses on a different guy.  This first book was about Shep.  This second book is all about Gabe.

Oh, Gabe, you funny, sarcastic, manwhore of a guy.  Gabe is not at all ashamed of his way of life.  Then he meets Lucy and you slowly see him evolve in to a kind, considerate and loving man.  Lucy is a sweet, sassy, insecure girl with a terrible body image problem.  They meet over the summer and become involved each one changing the other for the better.  They fall deeper into each other, but then summer ends and they part ways assuming they will never see each other again.  Surprise!  They end up at the same college!  I won’t tell you anymore of the plot, because while I liked the first half of the book, I loved the second half.  The second half is where things really get going and you really connect with the characters and what they are experiencing.  The book moves along pretty quickly after that (but not too fast that the reader feels rushed) and it’s a race to a sweet happily-ever-after.

One thing Monica Murphy does so well is angst.  Not campy, obnoxious angst, but believable, I’m feeling this along with the characters angst.  In the Dark has everything a romance reader would want—fun romance, sweet interactions, sexy times and of course, the all-important happily-ever-after.

Book Three in the series, Slow Play, which is Tristan’s story, is releasing November 10, 2015.  I can’t wait!
